The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 547

Nora let Julia pull her into a tight hug, a soft smile gracing her lips.

"I suppose it doesn't feel that fast to me..."

If Aaron hadn't cheated on her, she would have already been walking down the aisle at this age.

But life was unpredictable. Who could have foreseen that the man she spent seven years with would betray her?

Or that she would reunite with the man who had saved her life all those years ago?

The boy who had first stolen her heart was still the most exceptional presence in her life.

Nora honestly couldn't pinpoint the exact moment she had fallen for Nathan.

All she knew was that once she did, there was no turning back.

"I guess 'fast' isn't the right word. Maybe 'rushed' is better," Julia said thoughtfully. "I always pictured you doing things by the book, Nora. Getting a big proposal, having a long engagement, and then the wedding."

"I didn't expect you and the Captain to just skip straight to the finish line."

"Do you feel like you missed out?"

"Don't most women care about that kind of romance?"

"Didn't you want to see Captain Peyton get down on one knee?"

Nora seriously considered Julia's questions.

"Honestly, I used to care a lot about that."

Otherwise, she wouldn't have spent so much time hoping Aaron would propose on her birthday.

But perhaps because she had already watched those grand expectations crumble, she had become much more grounded.

"Now, I realize that as long as we end up together, the flashy gestures don't really matter."

Julia nodded, though she still looked a bit wistful.

"I'm so jealous of the Captain. Where else is he going to find a woman as amazing as you?"

"Besides, dating comes with the risk of getting stabbed in the back. I'll pass."

"You were with your ex for seven years and he still cheated. My faith in men is practically nonexistent at this point."

Nora considered this and didn't push the issue. Instead, she said, "As long as you know what you want, that's what matters. The worst thing you can be in life is indecisive."

"It makes it far too easy for people to manipulate you."

"Exactly."

Suddenly, a mischievous glint returned to Julia's eyes. "By the way, Nora, when you and the Captain are alone, who wears the pants?"

"Is he as intensely strict and serious behind closed doors as he is at the precinct?"

The memory of their heated kiss in the hallway suddenly flashed through Nora's mind.

A slow flush crept up her neck, and she opened her mouth several times, completely unsure of how to answer.
