The group blinked in surprise before erupting into laughter.

"Come on, Captain, you're way too honest!"

"We know you haven't been here long, but we really aren't playing favorites! It was just a joke."

Nathan smiled. "I know."

"It means a lot to me that Nora has a bridal party like you all to support her."

Hearing the genuine gratitude in his voice, the officers exchanged warm glances and nodded, quietly dropping the teasing tone.

Nora had been with the precinct for a long time. While most of them hadn't known the specifics of her family situation before, the officers who visited the hospital had shared a brief overview. They still didn't know all the details, but they knew Nora and her mother only had each other.

With her mother still hospitalized, it was highly unlikely she would be able to attend the wedding.

It was only natural that the squad stepped up to stand behind her.

Nora was the sweetheart of the department. She was brilliant, incredibly kind, and now that she was getting married, there was no way they would let her walk down the aisle alone.

Nathan was about to say something else when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

"Go on, we'll let the Captain know when he gets back."

Nora pressed her lips together, wanting to clarify that she wasn't reporting her whereabouts for him, but she knew over-explaining would only make it look worse.

She simply gave a stiff nod and turned to leave.

When she arrived at the Forensics Division, she formally asked Julia to be her bridesmaid. Julia was practically vibrating with excitement.

"Are you serious? I get to be in the wedding?"

Julia had never imagined such an honor would fall to her.

Nora smiled. "Yes. My best friend is flying in, which leaves me with an odd number of bridesmaids. I'd love for you to join us and even it out."

"Your dress and everything else will be completely taken care of. All you have to do is show up."

"That's amazing! I'll absolutely be there!" Julia looked at Nora, her eyes shimmering with emotion. "Oh my god, Nora, you're actually getting married. It all happened so fast, it feels like a dream..."
