The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 527

Mia had no idea what kind of hell Aaron had been through to suddenly develop this level of 'devotion'.

But she needed a loyal lapdog.

If he was begging to stay by her side, what did it matter if she kept him around like a pet?

If he actually helped her take control of the Hayes family, she'd win big.

If he failed, she could just throw him to the wolves as a scapegoat. She wouldn't lose a thing.

Judging by how pathetic he was acting, she figured he had completely run out of options.

Objectively speaking, Aaron was still an attractive guy. He was eager to please, and having him around for a change of pace wouldn't hurt.

She didn't mind throwing him a bone.

Especially with the good news she was expecting soon, there was no point in holding a grudge.

"Can you really promise that?"

Mia smiled sweetly at him. "You know my personality. If you dare lie to me, I will make you wish you were dead."

A chill ran down Aaron's spine.

Even though she was smiling, the sheer malice in her voice was unmistakable.

She meant every word.

Mia wasn't like Nora, who looked cold but actually had a soft heart.

Women like Mia would destroy anything in their path to get what they wanted.

If she caught him betraying her, the torture she'd put him through would be unimaginable.

"Of course."

Aaron looked at her with pure reverence. "I've already made my choice."

"Sure, I hesitated when I found out who Nora really was. But that was only because of our history."

"I didn't spend seven years with her for nothing. Of course, it was hard to let go."

Aaron shook his head. "I don't know either."

"They kept asking me if I knew what happened. Fucking psychos. How would I know? We just picked that place at random."

Mia's instincts flared. Something was definitely wrong.

"Was the restaurant owner arrested?"

"I think so. He was still in custody when they let me go."

Mia paused, pulled out her phone, and made a call.

Aaron pulled himself up from the floor. Having just gotten out of the precinct, he was starving and exhausted.

But he didn't dare complain, desperate to keep Mia happy.

Sitting on the sofa, his mind drifted back to his first year as an intern.

He and Nora had both been working insane hours, but every weekend when he dragged his exhausted body home, there was always a hot meal waiting for him.
