The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 74

Chapter 74

Cecilia’s POV

Leopold did not raise his voice, and yet that somehow made it worse.

“You are not allowed to leave this palace until say so,” he said, his eyes never leaving mine.

“Your Majesty-”

“No.”

It came out like a command, stopping what I was going to say instantly.

“You disguised yourself as a slave,” he continued, his voice dangerously controlled. “You escaped the palace without permission. You entered hostile territory and nearly got yourself killed.”

“It’s not hostile territory. It’s-”

“You were almost killed,” Leopold repeated, louder this time. “What would have happened if I hadn’t been there?”

“How did you know I was there?” I asked, my eyes shifting to the ground because I knew he was right. If he wasn’t there, my own.pack probably would have killed me under Diana’s orders. The thought made dread fall in the pit of my stomach.

“That doesn’t matter. What matters is how stupid you acted.”

His words were like a slap in the face, and I couldn’t help but wince.

I wanted answers. I wanted to know the truth about my mother’s death. I wanted to know the truth about my father.

I opened my mouth to say just that.

“Don’t,” he said sharply, stopping me before I could say anything. I clamped my mouth shut, my cheeks burning. “You acted recklessly, Cecilia. Until you learn to control your impulsive decisions, you’re grounded.”

| blinked.

“Grounded?” I asked. “Like a child?”

“Exactly,” he said, his eyes narrowing. “Want to act like a child? Then, you’ll be treated like one. Go to your room.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“I assure you, I am very serious. Don’t make me have Landon drag you there because I will.”

I pressed my lips together, my eyes never leaving his. He was serious; he would actually have Landon drag me to my room against my will.

I didn’t say anything else; I turned on my heel and walked out of his room. He didn’t follow me, and for a moment, I thought it was because he trusted me to do what I said. But that was short-lived when I reached my bedroom door and saw one of the guards standing there. His arms folded, and he was leaning against the wall; when his eyes found mine, he straightened and bowed his head slightly.

“Good evening, Miss Cecilia. I am Mike. I’m one of the King’s personal guards. He asked me to keep an eye on you until further notice.”

My heart stopped in my chest.

“Like a babysitter?”

“I wouldn’t say a babysitter,” he said, frowning. “More like a protector of a sort. To keep you safe.”

“You mean to keep me inside,” I said, folding my arms across my chest. “Is this the way the King expects me to stay in line?”

“I’m sorry if this isn’t ideal But I’m just doing what I’m told,” he said, cocking his head to the side. “I assure you I won’t be too invasive. I’ll keep my distance and direct you if something feels wrong. You don’t need to worry about anything.”

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, but I didn’t argue with him.

I went into my room, shutting the door behind me was utterly exhausted. It was later in the evening, and I hadn’t had dinner yet, but I wasn’t hungry. I just wanted to take a hot bath and then curl up in bed and rest.
