Chapter 62
Cecilia’s POV
“You bitch!!” Vivian growled as she turned to glare at me. Everyone was completely silent as they stared at her on the ground. ” You did that on purpose! You distracted me and it made me fall.”
“You wouldn’t have fallen if you weren’t on the tips of your feet,” I told her, keeping my voice calm. “I was trying to warn you, not distract you.”
“Liar!” She hissed. “Part of being a lady means you walk with grace. All high-ranking women walk on their toes. You would know nothing about that because you are nothing more than a weak Omega! You shouldn’t even be here in the first place. This is not the kind of lesson you should be taking. You should be learning how to serve tea properly.”
“A lady might walk with grace, but she also walks with stability. You can’t walk with stability if you are on the tips of your feet, Vivian,” I try to tell her, but I also knew she wasn’t listening to the words coming out of my mouth.
She was rubbing her ankle, so I knew she had twisted it on her way down, which is what I knew would happen. Her friends were already by her side, helping her to her feet. She winced, though she tried not to make that known.
“Don’t speak to me like you know anything about being a lady,” Vivian said through her teeth once she was finally on her feet again. “You know nothing about anything.”
“Enough of this,” Madam Isa said, standing in the middle of the two of us, her hands on her hips. “This argument is useless.”
“Exactly,” Vivian said, folding her arms across her chest. “I’m not taking lessons from someone who’s never done this a day in her life.”
“Well, maybe you should,” Madam Isa said, turning to face Vivian.
I could hear an intake of gasps from around me, and I’m pretty sure I was one of them because that was unexpected.
“Standing on the tips of your feet is not only damaging to your feet, but it also makes you unstable, just as Cecilia had told you. It also makes it easier for you to twist your ankle once you lose balance,” Madam Isa continued, narrowing her eyes at Vivian, whose face was growing increasingly redder by the second. “Who even told you that it was customary to walk like that?”
Vivian was stunned speechless, her eyes never leaving Madam Isa.
“I just thought…”
“You thought wrong,” Madam Isa said, shaking her head. “You spoke down to Cecilia, and yet she was right all along. She might have never done this before, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how it’s done.”
Madam Isa turned to me, her expression softening just a fraction, and I felt my chest easing.
“Cecilia. It’s your turn.”
I nodded my head; I ignored the nerves in my belly and went to the starting line that Madam Isa had set up. It’s been a while since I’ve done this, and though I still know the proper techniques, I was a bit worried about being out of practice.
Especially with everyone watching me.
Madam Isa took my rod and waited until I was in position before she placed it on my head, as she had done with the others as well. Once the rod was steady on my head and I had it in a place where I knew it wouldn’t fall, I started walking heel-to-toe.
My shoulders were back, and my head was in a place that kept the rod stable as the rest of me moved. I relaxed my features and even had a small smile on my face as if I were greeting someone who wasn’t there.
Once I reached the end of the line, I turned, the rod never moving out of place. I could feel every single pair of eyes on me, and my heart was racing. I tried not to look at any of them, fearing it would make my steps falter.
Unce I reached Madam Isa, I lowered my body in a curtsy, making some of the others gasp.

My eyes reached Madam sa 49 I remained in the curtsy position, and I could see a flicker of approval in her eyes. The corner of her lips was lifting even more than they had earlier. She stared at me for what felt like a long while, and I didn’t rise or take my eyes off hers. She then took the rod off my head and nodded her head.
I rose and let out the breath I hadn’t known I was holding.
She turned to the others.
“Now that’s how it’s done,” she said, making my eyes widen slightly. “Lessons are dismissed for today. Same time tomorrow. We meet in the dining hall.”
The girls started to leave the ballroom; some of them glaring at me, and some of them giving me approving looks. Vivian looked like she wanted to scratch my eyes out. She left without another word to anyone, and her friends quickly hurried after her.
I started to walk away to join Claira, Jasmine, and Cora, but stopped when I heard Madam Isa’s voice behind me.
“Cecilia,” she said, her voice low and catching me off guard. I turned to look at her. “You aren’t just an Omega… are you?”
Her words made my chest tighten. She was looking at me as if she could see right through me. Like she already knew the truth.
I shook my head.
“No,” I admitted, unsure of why I was doing so. “I’m not.”
With that, I turned and hurried out of the ballroom. That conversation stuck with me through the rest of the day. I kept asking myself if I was being too much; if it was obvious that I wasn’t an Omega. Madam Isa only knew me for about 45 minutes, and she could already tell that I wasn’t a normal Omega.
My chest tightened; if she could figure it out so quickly, did that mean others could figure it out too?
I needed to start treading lightly if I didn’t want to be exposed.
“How did you learn to do that?” Jasmine asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
