Chapter 61
Madam Isa stared at me for anoment longer before the corner of her lips lifted.
“Very well,” she said. “Stand with the other concubines then, and we can continue our lessons. We were discussing the proper way to walk.”
I noticed a box beside her on the ground, filled with silver rods. I remember those from when I took lessons in high school. As someone with an Alpha ranking, being the Alpha’s daughter, it was required.
“As I was saying, Ladies. Posture is everything when it comes to making a good entrance. As a queen, you would be expected to make an entrance that counts for something. One that will turn heads the moment you walk into the room. Come grab a silver rod.”.
Madam Isa grabbed a rod for herself and then motioned for the rest of us to grab one as well. Of course, Vivian made it a point to be the first one to grab one, and then as she walked past me, her shoulder bumped into mine.
“Sorry, I must have forgotten to tell you about these lessons,” she said, giving me a fake pout. “My mistake.”
I smiled, not letting her words get to me.
“That’s alright, Vivian. Mistakes happen. I’m sure it won’t happen again,” I tell her, trying to keep my tone as casual as possible.
She didn’t seem to like that because she pressed her lips together and narrowed her eyes. She didn’t’ get a chance to say anything in return because Madam Isa was right there.
“Vivian, get back in line,” she said, motioning towards some of the others who were already in line, waiting for their turn to walk with their rods on their heads.
Vivian’s cheeks reddened slightly, but she did what she was told.
I went to grab my rod, my hand bumping into another. When I looked up, I saw Jasmine staring back at me with Cora and Claira behind her.
“Oh, hey,” Jasmine said, straightening her posture. “We are glad you made it to class.”
“We tried to find you,” Cora said quickly. “We didn’t know what time these lessons were going to be until the last minute, and Vivian said she was going to tell you. She made a whole show about embarrassing you during class, so we didn’t think she was lying about informing you about the class.”
“We should have followed up,” Claira said, shaking her head, her cheeks pink. “We are so sorry.”
I grabbed the rod and smiled at them.
“It’s not a big deal,” I told them, giving them a small shrug. “So, I look like a mess because I just got out of the bath. Worst things have happened.”
If only they knew the extent of that.
They all looked relieved, and it made me smile even wider. Were they really worried that I was upset with them? I wanted to laugh out loud; none of this was their responsibility. Vivian was the one who lied to them, and Vivian was the one who planned for me to miss this class. I wasn’t going to fault these girls over their decision.
“When I point to you, you’ll walk in a straight line with that rod on your head. Try not to drop the rod,” Madam Isa explained.
She pointed her finger at one of the other concubines, and the concubine did what she was told. Only she stumbled a little, and the rod went straight to the ground before she could catch it. Some of the other girls snickered, and I stifled an eye roll at the sound because the girls snickering were supposed to be her friends.
They weren’t any better, each of them stumbled and dropped the rod. Some dropped it faster than the first girl did.
