The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Cecilia’s POV

“I think I’m okay here,” I tell Vivian, not wanting to sit with her and her friends.

“Don’t you think you should be trying to get to know all of us? That’s what this tea party is for after all… so we can get to know each other. We are all royal concubines after all.”

“So, now you are considering me one of you?” I asked, raising my brows. “I thought I was still beneath you.”

“I can’t argue with facts, and the fact of the matter is, Landon invited you here because you are a concubine,” Vivian said, a plastered smile on her lips. “Perhaps we got off on the wrong foot. You did save us after all.”

“Oh, that’s right. I heard about how the King went mad earlier and almost killed some of the women. You stepped in, didn’t you?” Cora asked, her eyes wide when she looked at me.

“It wasn’t really a big deal,” I said, trying to sound as nonchalant as I could. “I just did what anyone would do.”

“No… You faced the King when he was manic. He could have killed you. He’s killed so many before, and he would have killed Vivian and the others if you hadn’t stepped in. The fact that he didn’t kill you is amazing,” Cora said. “It’s amazing, really.”

My cheeks warmed, and I couldn’t look directly at them, or they would see the many emotions crossing my face.

“Well, if you won’t come sit with us… then we will have to sit with you,” Vivian said, motioning for the others at her table.

They stood with their teacups in hand and hurried over. They pulled a couple of seats up and sat down, surrounding me. The ones I was originally sitting with looked uncomfortable, but they said nothing.

“Congratulations on your role change. Being chosen as the King’s newest concubine as an Omega is huge,” Vivian said, stirring her tea slowly, her eyes assessing me. “The fact that he didn’t kill you when he went mad is pretty impressive, too. I’m just wondering how you made that happen.”

“We are all very curious,” one of the others said, her eyes watching me, just as they all were.

“I didn’t do anything special. After you ran, Landon stepped in and was the one who calmed him,” I lied; I really didn’t want this

kind of attention.

“I’m sure this is like a whole other world for you. To be able to live in a gorgeous room, wear beautiful clothes, and spend time with noble women like us,” Vivian continued as if I hadn’t said anything. You have little to no training on how to properly act around higher-ranked wolves, other than bowing and serving.”

The girls all laughed except for Claria, Cora, and Jasmine.

“Most of us were born leaders,” one of the girls said, moving a strand of blond hair out of her face. “I’m from the Northern territory, which is known for producing the strongest warriors. My father is the head Gamma of the largest pack and has trained me for most of my life on how to be a proper warrior so I can one day protect our pack.”

“I’m going to be the Luna of my pack,” another girl said, a thoughtful smile spreading across her face. “The Alpha’s son is going to take me as his chosen mate once I return to the pack after the King finds his true mate.”

Her voice was softer, and I could tell it was something she truly wanted.

“You aren’t waiting for your true mate?” Jasmine asked, raising her brows. “I thought we were all waiting for that.”

The girl just laughed and shook her head.

“Do you truly believe that we all have true mates? Those are only for the highest-ranked wolves. The Goddess doesn’t bless any ranking below an Alpha in that way. I’m not holding out for something that doesn’t exist.”

“And the Alpha’s son isn’t looking for his true mate?” Jasmine asked, making the girl’s cheeks redden.
