Cecilia’s POV

Are you out of your mind??” Mariah said as she stepped into the guest room, her eyes finding me as I sat on the bed, my hands in my lap and my legs crossed. “Uncuff her this instant. She’s pregnant and has done nothing wrong.”

“She intruded on our land,” Conrad said, stepping in behind her, folding his arms across his chest, his normal stance. “She’s an outsider. That’s what she did wrong.”

“You’ve gone mad,” Mariah said, turning on him and pointing a finger. “Are you serious right now? Conrad… when did you become such an asshole?”

“Watch your mouth, Mariah. I am the royal Beta.”

“And you’re still my brother,” Mariah said, folding her own arms across her chest.

My eyes widened; now that I was seeing them together, I realized they did look quite similar.

Conrad rolled his eyes.

“I didn’t bring you here to lecture me. I brought you here to examine her and tell me if she’s actually pregnant,” Conrad said through his teeth.

She rolled her eyes too.

“I’ve already examined her, and yes, she is pregnant. She has no memories, Conrad. She was found unconscious floating in a river heading towards our territory. Lucy found her on her way home and brought her here. I’ve been treating her since she arrived yesterday. She has no memory of where she came from or even what her name is. And you have her chained in here like some kind of criminal. Mom and dad would be disgusted with you.’

“Don’t you dare bring them into this,” he seethed, his eyes blazing red as his wolf surged to the surface. “They died protecting this pack.”

“They died doing the right thing, and you keeping a pregnant woman prisoner is not the right thing,” Mariah said, narrowing her eyes at her brother. “This is truly beneath you.”

He scowled at her.

“And if she turns out to be dangerous? Then what?”

“This is Lycan territory… do you truly think she’s capable of defeating a bunch of Lycans?” Mariah asked, raising her brows. “Give yourself more credit than that, Big Brother.”

Conrad stared at her a moment longer before sighing. He turned towards me.

“If I uncuff you, don’t think about running away. There are warriors everywhere ready to fight if needed,” he warned, pointing at me.

I nodded.

“I won’t run,” I assured him. “I’m not even sure where I would go even if I did.”

He stared at me for a moment longer before stepping closer and pulling a set of keys out of his pocket.

“Where is Lucy?” Mariah asked. “How did she let this happen?”

“She tried to stop them,” I told her, keeping my tone low. “But they dragged her away.”

“The princess is safe in her room,” Conrad said as he unlocked the handcuffs. The moment the cuffs were off my wrists, I felt like I could breathe a little better. Angry red marks surrounded my wrists, and Mariah noticed them right away.

“Ugh… that’ll scar if I don’t treat it,” she said, shaking her head. “I need to get my equipment.”

“She’s a wolf… it’ll heal on its own,” Conrad muttered. “Might take a little longer because it’s silver, but she will be fine.”

Mariah turned to look at him, pressing her lips together.

“The wolfsbane in her system is keeping her from healing properly,” she informed. “You would know that if you bothered to know anything of this situation.”
