Chapter 271
cilia’s POV
My lungs burned as I ran, my adrenaline pumping. Her ponytail swayed behind her, and her form was excellent; she was much faster than any other omega in our pack. She was laughing; her voice booming across the pack grounds as she turned to see me catching up to her.
I reached my hand out to tag her, and her eyes grew wide. For a moment, she looked like she feared me, and it confused me. I had never frightened Sophia before… she was my best friend. She was practically my sister. We were raised together; her mother and my father. They were close friends, and they raised us like sisters.
Well, kind of.
Sometimes I felt like my father liked Sophia more than he liked me. And Sophia’s mother never looked at me like I was a daughter. She often blamed me for getting Sophia mixed up in my mess, but Sophia always defended me.
Even though I was the daughter of an Alpha, and Sophia was the daughter of an Omega, we were still best friends) and I loved her more than anything.
Just as I reached her, my hand tapped her shoulder gently, and I said the words, “Tag! You’re it…”
But the words died in my throat as Sophia fell to the ground with a thud. Blood oozed out of the scrape on her knee, and she screamed like her life was in danger. I froze, my hand in the air from tagging her; I hadn’t touched her that hard. It was only a tap on the shoulder, and yet she was acting as if I shoved her to the ground so hard that it broke her leg.
But I don’t think her leg was broken… despite her screaming that it was broken. I just saw a scrape.
Her body was trembling as tears fell down her cheeks. She was staring up at me as if I had wronged her, and I was more confused than ever.
I heard Diana screaming from the packhouse as she rushed to comfort her daughter; her eyes filled with worry.
My father was right behind her. They surrounded her, trying to comfort her and figure out what happened while I stood frozen in place, confused. My cheeks were flushed from running, and I took a step back just as Sophia’s eyes darted in my direction.
That was when my father’s expression darkened entirely, and he turned to face me. His lip curled in disgust; it was the first time he’s ever truly looked at me like I was something beneath his shoe, and it made me stagger backward, my eyes welling with tears.
I tried to defend myself, but the words died on my tongue.
Without warning, Diana marched up to me, her hands turning into the claws of her wolf as she lifted her hand and swiped it across my face with one quick motion. I felt the sting before I heard the sound of her palm connecting with my cheek.
I tasted the blood on my lip, and I knew her claws dug into my cheek; I felt the marks and the welts before they even started to form fully.
I thought my father would have scolded her, but instead, he scolded me.
“You are useless, pathetic excuse of a daughter,” he growled at me, his eyes turning red as his wolf surged towards the surface. “How dare you shove Sophia to the ground? She has been nothing but kind to you, and that’s how you repay her?”

I looked at Sophia, willing her to say something. But she was too focused on her throbbing leg and crying into her mother’s arms.
I tried to say, but my father wouldn’t listen to me or let me get a single word out.
He slapped me so hard that my face rattled and turned numb almost entirely. I fell to the ground, my vision blurring. He grabbed hold of my arm and dragged me towards the packhouse, continuously telling me what a disappointment I am.
I cried out for him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen to a word I spoke.
Once we were inside, he dragged me up the stairs and into another room, a room I barely ever went into. It was only a guest room, but something about it felt eerily uncomfortable. He opened a door leading into a dark closet; I noticed the padlock on the outside and panicked.
He shoved me so hard that my head hit one of the shelves in the closet, and darkness clouded my vision oncé again. I fell to the ground just as he slammed the door shut and locked it.
I started to hyperventilate; it was so small and dark here. I was terrified of the dark. I was claustrophobic. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I tried to open the door, but I couldn’t… it was locked from the outside. I screamed for him not to leave me in here, but it was too late; he was already gone.
I tried to scream that I was innocent… that I hadn’t done anything wrong. But there was nobody there to hear me.
