Chapter 235
Deciding not to stick too close to the palace grounds, I followed the scent, which seemed to lead me towards the forest line.
I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to see the moment I stepped into the forest, though.
I froze entirely when I saw Cecilia standing there, naked as the day she was born. Her smooth skin was on full display, and my fingers itched to touch her. Every molecule on my body was alert to her at that moment, and I had no idea why. I shouldn’t be this drawn to her in this kind of way… and yet… I couldn’t seem to stop staring at her/
I also felt a strange sense of calm wash over me; the anger I felt a moment ago vanished almost completely.
This was new.
I stepped closer, breaking a twig in the process and causing her to whip around to look at me, her eyes wide/
My eyes met hers for a moment before they dropped to her breasts without my permission.
She gasped and covered herself with her arms, making me feel like such a creep.
“Sorry,” I said, quickly turning around despite myself. “I wasn’t trying to watch you… I was taking a walk, and I happened to come across you.”
I heard her hurried movements, knowing she was probably trying to put her dress on, and then she gasped.
“Oh, Goddess… why…” she murmured under her breath.
I turned to look at her; her dress covered her, though it wasn’t on her body yet. She was staring at it with a frown.
“What happened?”
“It ripped when I took it off, and it got dirty,” she sighed. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to get this back on…”
Without thinking, I took off my cloak and approached her, holding it out for her and trying to keep my eyes on her face and not on any other part of her body.
“Here,” I tell her. “Put this on.”
She stared at it for a moment longer than necessary before she took it and wrapped it around her body, covering herself completely.
I let out a breath now that she was covered, and I took the dress from her hands.
“I’ll have this fixed for you.”
She shook her head.
“Not necessary,” she said softly. “But I appreciate it.”
She started walking past me towards the palace.
“What were you doing naked?” I asked her, unable to stop myself.
“I was about to go for a run,” she tells me.
I raise my brows.
“In your wolf form?” I asked.

“Yes.”
Well, don’t let me stop you. You are allowed to shift, Cecilia,” I tell her, not wanting to stop on my account. “The moment’s over,” she tells me, her steps hurried. “I’d rather return to my chambers and take a bath.”
“Can we talk for a moment?”
I’m not even sure what I wanted to say to her; I just knew I didn’t want her to walk away from me like this.
“Let me guess…” she murmured. “You’ve spoken to Lady Sophia?”
Hearing her name genuinely irritated me, but I bit my tongue.
“I did.”
She rolled her eyes, though she tried to hide it, and I couldn’t help the smile that tipped the corner of my lips.
“Did you come to find me so you can punish me?” She asked.
“No,” I tell her. “Whatever Sophia had done and said, it wasn’t authorized. I’ll make sure she remembers her place. Until she’s the queen, she has no real authority.”
She paused for a moment just before we entered the palace. She was obviously surprised to hear me say that.
“Does she know that?”
“She will,” I assured her. “You have my word.”
“I don’t need your word,” she muttered. “I need your actions.
She walked inside, and I couldn’t help but follow her.
“And you’ll have them, Cecilia,” I assured her again. “I promise. Let me walk you back to your room.”
“And why would you want to do that?”
I paused; she was right. I shouldn’t want to do that, and yet…
“I want to speak with you in private.”
She blinked as she stared up at me, her eyes searching mine for what felt like an eternity. Soon, she let out a breath and nodded slowly.
