The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 233

Chapter 233

Se narrowed her eyes at me, her lips pressing in a thin line.

“This is my dinner rehearsal. Landon told me I have full rein for this event to make it as magical as possible,” she tells me. “Besides, I’m going to be the queen soon enough. You better fall into line before I report you to the King himself.”

“Perhaps you should report me,” I dared. “I would like to hear what he would have to say.”

There was a collection of gasps that went around the room; I have no idea where this sudden bravery was coming from. But I was sick of Sophia dictating every aspect of my life. She had taken everything from me, and I wasn’ going to stand around and let her take away my dignity as well.

“Do you seriously think I wouldn’t?”

I pressed my lips together.

“I’m honestly hoping you will,” I told her. “And by the way, you really shouldn’t do red Irises. They don’t go along with the rest of the table set.”

Her face turned red with pure anger.

“These happen to be my favorite flowers. They’re staying,” she sneered.

“They’re tacky.”

She stood up, the chair scraping across the floor as she glared at me.

“Eine,” she said, tucking a strand of her long hair behind her ear. “You want to pretend you have any taste, go ahead. You’ll be sorry that you’ve ever crossed me, Cecilia!”

Without another word, she was rushing out of the banquet hall.

“Cecilia, what is wrong with you?” Jasmine asked, her eyes wide as she stared at me. “You aren’t acting like yourself. You’re temperamental, and you’re about to get yourself into trouble.”

I stepped away from her, suddenly feeling as if this room was way too small.

“I need to get some air,” I murmured as I started towards the doorway.

“She’s going to be mad that you left,” Claira called after me.

“If you couldn’t tell, I really don’t care what Sophia has to think,” I tell them. “She’s not the queen yet; therefore, she isn’t in charge of any of us.”

I don’t wait to hear their reply before I leave the banquet hall. I could already hear Sophia’s squealing voice from down the hallway; probably venting to anyone who will listen.

I’m not going to wait around for her to drag Leopold here; I can hardly even breathe in this palace right now.

I started towards the back entryway that led into the gardens. The moment I was outside, the cool breeze hit my flesh, and I felt a little better. My heart was no longer racing, and my hands finally stopped trembling.

I could still feel Lora stewing; she was on edge, and it was worrying me.

Instead of going to the gardens, I went to the forest lines. Perhaps she just needed to blow off some steam and go for a run.

Once the forest surrounded me, I slipped off my shoes and allowed my bare feet to soak in the earth. It was grounding and everything I needed. It’s been a while since I shifted and ran free; I was with Warren the last time I shifted.

I stripped off my clothes until I was completely nude.

I closed my eyes and focused my attention on my wolf, calling her forward. It doesn’t usually take long to shift into my wolf, but I stood stagnant for a moment, feeling as if I was calling into something that wasn’t there.

And then I felt her right at the surface.

The corner of my lips curved as I greeted her; I could feel her excitement as she attempted to shift. I knew she was feeling locked away and needed to stretch her paws and let her fur breathe.

But as soon as that excitement came, it vanished with an intense shock that made me open my eyes almost immediately.

“Lora?” I asked. “What’s going on?”
