Chapter 222
Cecilia’s POV
I had made the biggest mistake of my life.
Why couldn’t I listen to Jax and find another bathroom elsewhere? But instead, I had to be stubborn and run down. the forbidden corridor in the King’s private sector to seek out the closest bathroom.
In my defense, I didn’t even think I was going to make it to the bathroom at all. I thought for sure I was going to puke all over the marble flooring if I didn’t get to the bathroom right away.
It was my own fault for agreeing to get a meal with Jax this evening. After he dropped me off at my room earlier in the day, he asked if I wanted to grab a meal with him later because he worried I was getting thin. He wasn’t wrong; I had barely eaten in days. It was mainly because of how off my stomach has been lately… but also because of my stress and anxiety when it came to Leopold and Sophia’s upcoming wedding.
But now I was standing in a room with Leopold, having dinner… with my father, Diana, and of course, Sophia.
“You want us to join you?” Jax asked, his brows raised to his hairline.
“Of course,” Sophia said, motioning for a couple of empty chairs. “Jax, you’re from our pack, right? It’s been a while. I would love for us to catch up.”
Jax glanced at me; I’m sure my face was probably drained of color. I no longer felt sick to my stomach, but it’s probably because the unease went from my belly and straight to my chest. Maybe it was the shock of the situation, or the fact that Leopold was staring at me in a way he did right before he wanted to kiss me.
I shook that thought out of my head; he didn’t want to kiss me. I was stupid, walking right into a trap.
1 opened my mouth to decline the invitation, but Jax draped an arm around my shoulders, pulling me in close to
him.
“We would love to join you,” he said with a grin.
My mouth fell open as I stared up at him.
“We would?” I asked, unable to keep the bitterness out of my tone.
“Yes, of course we would,” he said, giving me a nudge towards the empty chair that Sophia motioned for. “When the royals ask us to dine with them… we dine with them.”
I wanted to correct him and tell him that the only royal at this table was Leopold and that he hadn’t asked us to dine. But I knew that would be a bad look and only cause more problems. So, I bit my tongue and forced a smile.
“Yeah, of course,” I say, trying to keep the annoyance off my face.
I went with Jax to the empty seats and sat down, keeping my hands on my lap.
Leopold was still staring at me; his jaw locked. I tried my best not to look at him, but it was hard. After a moment, he finally pulled his eyes away from mine and motioned for one of the slaves standing in the corner to bring us plates and silverware.
She got to work placing the tableware in front of us. And just as she was starting to place the wine glass and poured me a glass of wine, the smell of it made my stomach roll. I pressed my lips together to keep from making any gagging noises.
Once I was sure I could speak, I politely smiled at her.

“Would you mind grabbing me a glass of water?” I asked her.
e looked puzzled by my request but then nodded.
“Of course,” she said quickly, bowing her head slightly at me as she started towards the refreshment table on the far side of the room.
My father raised his brows, probably not expecting the slaves to treat me with respect here, considering I was brought here to be one of them. I had to keep reminding myself that at this table, he was not my father. He was Sophia’s father and my Alpha. I was just the Omega that was taken from his pack.
“You’re not drinking?” Leopold asked, his eyes narrowed as the slave returned with a glass of water, setting itin front of me.
I frowned at him.
?
“I’d prefer to keep a clear head, Your Majesty,” I tell him, watching as his jaw clenched even more.
