Chapter 218
Leopold’s POV-
“You disobeyed my orders, Landon,” I said, burying my face in my hands as I sat at my desk. “Don’t make this a habit.”
“Your Majesty, with all due respect, you killed one of your guards,” Landon said, narrowing his eyes at me.
We had just finished cleaning up the mess Edgar had made.
“He deserved to die after what he did,” I muttered.
“Perhaps… but you weren’t in your right frame of mind. Cecilia’s the only one who-”
“Don’t say it,” I snarled, my eyes turning red with anger as I glared up at him. “Don’t fucking say it, Landon.”
He stepped closer, not afraid of me in the least. Landon knows he doesn’t have to fear me; my wolf would never lose control of him. At least he hasn’t so far. Landon practically raised me when my father died.
“I’m just saying, you don’t have all the answers,” Landon said, softening his voice. “You might like pretending that you do. But you don’t. Cecilia has done nothing but help you, and you treated her coldly just now. I know you aren’t the ruthless Alpha King you’re rumored to be. So, stop acting like you are.”
With that, Landon turned and walked out of the study, leaving speechless.
He was right; Cecilia did help me, and I was a complete asshole. I rubbed my face with my hands and let out a groan of frustration. I don’t often admit when I’m wrong… Landon was right, though. I don’t know everything even though I pretend that I do. I’m the Alpha King… I’m supposed to have all the knowledge.
With a sigh, I stood.
I needed to apologize and thank her for helping me and my wolf.
I made my way out of the study and towards Cecilia’s room.
Just as I got to the top of the stairs and around the corner of the corridor that led to her room, I froze as the door opened.
My heart sank when I saw Jax walking out of her room. He turned to look at her, and she gave him a kind smile, a smile that utterly infuriated me. He bent down and kissed her cheek; my hands were clenched into fists so tight that my nails broke through the skin of my palms.
I should have known she’d go straight to Jax. It was obvious that she had affections for him.
If she loved him so much, then fine…she didn’t deserve my apology or my gratitude.
“King Leopold…” I startled at the sound of the soft voice behind me. I turned to see Sophia standing there, staring up at me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you. I was looking for you.”
“Sophia,” I greeted, trying to soften my tone so as not to scare her. She might have annoyed me when I first met her, but she’s my mate regardless, and I needed to start treating her kindly. Especially after knowing how Cecilia truly felt. “What can I do for you?”
“I wanted to know if you’d like to take a stroll in the gardens tomorrow morning?” She asked, blinking up at me.
My first instinct was to decline and come up with an excuse as to why. But instead, I nodded.

“Yeah, I would like that. 9 am,” I told her. “I’ll come get you myself from your room.”

Cecilia’s POV
I barely slept last night.
I felt numb as I made my way towards the concubine lounge, my heart practically in my throat. I couldn’t stop thinking about my interaction with Leopold after I calmed his wolf down. And then, on top of that, I couldn’t stop thinking about my interaction with Jax.
“Run away with me, Cecilia. Please…” Jax had asked, his eyes pleading with him to understand… to go with him.
My heart stopped in my chest, and I stared at him with disbelief.
“Jax…” I started, my tone soft.
I thought about coming up with a lie… some excuse. But all I said was, “Come inside my room.”
