The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Walking toward me, he took me by the elbow and then urged me to walk with him. He didn’t say a word until we found a quiet corner of the hallway where no others were around.

In a low voice, he asked me, “Did you sleep with his Highness?”

Shock struck through me, even as my face burned hot. “Of course not.”

“Don’t pretend,” Landon lightly scolded. “For six months, Alpha King Leopold hasn’t touched any of his concubines. Instead, dead bodies have been littering his floors. Since you’ve slept with him now -”

“I didn’t -”

“You are officially his concubine now. Who would have guessed that he would pick an Omega?” He hummed. I tried to correct him, but he kept cutting me off. “There are rules for such things. You cannot get involved with any other men.”

Before I could try again to defend myself, Landon had me by the arm again and led me down the hallway. This time we stopped in what appeared to be a large dressing room, with hair stylists and makeup artists aplenty, standing in front of great big mirrors on one side of the room. Another stylist was standing near a massive wardrobe, filled to the brim with beautiful gowns and outfits.

“His Highness will only fall in love with the True Mate he has been searching for. But you, the first Omega he has ever favored, are already special.”

“But I’m not -”

“There’s no reason to fight this,” he said. “Once he finds his mate, all of the concubines in the palace will receive a very generous payout. You should take advantage of this opportunity, and use that money to secure a better future for yourself.”

I hadn’t actually slept with Leopold, but… if I were to be named one of his concubines, then maybe I would have a changes at freedom someday. A slave would never leave the palace. A concubine would be free the day Leopold found his mate.

If I wanted my freedom, and I certainly did, then what other choice did I have but to go along with this arrangement?

So I did. My hair and makeup was done, and I was dressed in fine silks.

Then, at noon, Landon brought me to the banquet hall, where the other many royal concubines had gathered.

The moment I entered the large room, all eyes turned to me. Most of the gazes were icy daggers, and I swallowed thickly.

At a head table in the room, Leopold sat in the center. Beside him were two young men, Leopold’s younger brother Caden and, to my surprise, Jax.

Jax had been my childhood friend, a Gamma from another pack. I’d heard he’d been appointed the Alpha King’s Gamma Captain. And here he was.

His eyes sparked with recognition the moment he saw me. An excited smile lit up his face as he excused himself from the table and walked over to me.

Gods, when was the last time we had seen each other? It had been years.

A small bit of excitement came alive itt mè too, but with it came worry. Revealing our connection could cause trouble for both of us. It’s hard to explain why we knew each other and why I was the Alpha daughter. What if Leopold thought we were lying together? Would he kill me on the spot?
