The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 190

Leopold’s POV

The ballroom felt suffocating, even after the announcement.

Even after Sophia stood beside me with tears pooling in her eyes and her hand wrapped around my atm as though she had

belonged there all along.

I didn’t want to believe that she was my mate, but the evidence was right in front of me. That mark belonged to my wolf, and there was nothing I could do about it. I had marked her that night… she described the details of that very moment, my life changed forever.

The look on Cecilia’s face was something I couldn’t get out of my head, despite how hard I tried. She tried to mask it, but I could see the hurt in her eyes and the need to correct something that shouldn’t have to be corrected.

I barely remembered leaving the ballroom.

It was ongoing when I left; Sopha was back with her parents, a group of girls surrounding them and congratulating her.

The conversations around me had blurred together into menacing noise. Nobles offering praise and Alphas expressing their

annoyance that their daughters are ultimately rejected during the consort ceremony.

Women whispered behind their jeweled fans.

Yet, the only person I wanted to see at that moment was the very person I shouldn’t.

That was why I left when I did… because I didn’t trust myself to stay. I didn’t trust that I wouldn’t find Cecilia and try to speak with her again… convince her not to leave.

I found my mate… I should be happy. Thrilled even.

But something in the pit of my stomach sat like lead… something didn’t feel right.

I stood near the window of my study, loosening the collar around my throat as irritation simmered beneath my skin. I heard movements behind me, and I didn’t have to turn around to know that Landon had entered the room, shutting the door behind

him.

“With all due respect, Your Majesty…” he started to say. “But you look terrible.”

I shot him a glare over my shoulder, not in the mood.

He let out a breath and stepped further into the room, his hands clasped behind his back.

“Pardon me for asking, sire. But shouldn’t you be happy?” He asked, his brows were rising slightly. “You finally found your mate. Which means you can finally break the curse and free your wolf.”

I pressed my lips together, turning fully to face him.

“There’s something wrong.

Landon didn’t look shocked by my admittance; in fact, he looked slightly relieved.

“With Sophia?”

“With everything,” I snapped, harsher than intended. I dragged a hand through my hair before exhaling sharply. “None of this

makes sense.”

“She had your mark, sire,” he reminded me. “We both saw it with our own eyes, and it carried your scent. The only way it would carry your scent is if you had given it to her.”

“I know,” I said sharply, irritation clawing its way out of me. “I know what I saw, and I know what I smelled.”

Landon stayed quiet, his eyes studied my face for an inpossibly long time, and I knew there was something he wanted to say, but he was stopping himself.

“What is it, Landon?” Tasked, letting out a slow breath. “Spit it out.”

“May I speak freely?”

“Don’t you always?” I asked, rolling my eyes.

This time, the corner of his lips lifted.

“I try to be mindful of your title, sire. I may have known you for your entire life… but I know my place.”

My chest tightened. I was being a dick… I was well aware of that. Landon had always been good to me, and he didn’t deserve my
