Cecilia’s POV

This girl, Erica, was putting on a full performance. She even had tears coming out of her eyes. Some of the other girls were spreading around her, all with worried expressions, overplaying the performance.

“She’s a liability,” Vivian continued, her arms folded across her chest as she glared at me. “She shouldn’t be anywhere near the King, let alone have a chance at becoming the Luna Queen.”

“That’s enough,” Landon said, stepping into the center of the banquet hall, his eyes narrowing at Vivian. “There’s no need to cause such a scene. This is a private matter and will be discussed accordingly.”

He then turned to me, and I could see the disapproving look in his eyes. It made the color drain from my face; I was sure of it.

“This is not the time or the place,” he said, his voice low. “Come with me without a fight, Cecillia.”

My heart pounded fiercely in my chest, a whirlwind of confusion and fear overwhelming me, making it hard to think clearly.

“I hadn’t done anything wrong. She’s lying,” I said, trying to keep my tone under control.

“You’re the one lying,” a girl said, pointing her finger at me. “I saw the entire thing. She scratched Erica and pushed her. All because she was only trying to say good luck.”

“That’s not true-”

“Cecilia is known for her lying,” Sophia said, stepping forward. “She can’t be trusted.”

“That is enough,” Leopold’s voice boomed across the banquet hall, effectively silencing everybody.

All attention immediately turned towards him.

“Landon,” Leopold said without taking his eyes off me. “Take Cecilia to my study. Have her wait for me there.”

“Yes, Sire,” Landon said, bowing his head slightly before turning towards me. “You heard him. Let’s go

I knew there was no point in arguing with him, especially in front of everybody. I was embarrassed with all eyes on me, and I was so confused. I had no idea why this woman would do this to me, but I was going to find out.

I didn’t say anything; I just turned towards the door and started towards it. Landon followed behind me. Ididn’t even bother glancing back at Leopold or my friends, who I knew were probably worried.

The doors closed behind us with a quiet finality that seemed louder than the voices we left behind. For a moment, I could still feel them… the weight of their attention, the sharpness of their judgment, the way most of the room turned on me so quickly… it left me uneasy.

Even as the corridor swallowed the noise of the banquet hall, the echo of it followed me, clinging in a way I couldn’t shake.

Landon did not speak.

His silence felt intentional, as if the thoughts he had were carefully kept out of reach. The distance between s was not large, but it felt deliberate and controlled.

I already knew my way there without needing Landon to lead, and he knew this, which was why he walked behind me, keeping a respectable distance between us.
