The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143

Most of the day consisted of me being bathied, plucked, and dressed like I was nothing more than a doll.

By the time the afternoon sun began to lower, I had finished getting dressed and was staring at myself in the mirror.

The gown was breathtaking.

There was no other word for it.

The royal linen fell against my skin like it had been made for me, the deep color rich and striking against my complexion. The fabric caught the morning light in a way that made it seem almost alive, shifting subtly with every movement.

My hair had been styled carefully, pulled back just enough to frame my face, while leaving soft strands to fall naturally.

I barely recognized myself, and neither did Lora.

“Beautiful,” Lora breathed; her presence was quiet but approving.

For a moment… I allowed myself to dream.

I allowed myself to feel it.

To feel what it could be like to belong here… what it could be like to be chosen. But as quickly as that thought came to me, I brushed it away, knowing that I had to stop thinking like that.

The foyer was already full when I arrived.

Women lined the place, each more beautiful than the last. And of course, Sophia stood among them. I wasn’t surprised that she looked absolutely stunning, and it made my stomach twist.

The concubines stood a distance away from them, and then the Alphas, along with Diana, stood in a different area, watching their daughters fall at the feet of the Alpha King, who hadn’t arrived yet.

I made my way over to Jasmine, Claira, and Cora. They wore their tailored dresses and looked gorgeous. However, they didn’t do anything special with their hair and makeup. They looked as they always did, which probably meant they weren’t taking this as seriously as some others.

“You look stunning,” Jasmine breathed, her eyes wide.

My heart thudded in my chest as I looked down at my dress.

“Yeah?” I asked, nibbling on my bottom lip. “You don’t think it’s too much?”

“Too much?” Cora asked, shaking her head. “It’s perfect. The King won’t be able to take his eyes off you.”

Claira nodded in agreement and I felt my cheeks warming. Of course, other’s were gorgeous as well and I didn’t think I looked better than them. But I was getting some nasty looks from those around me, and I tried hard not to notice.

Not just from the other concubines, either; that I was at least used to. I was getting looks from the Alpha’s daughters as well. It was obvious that my status as a favored concubine became known to more than just Sophia.

“Good afternoon,” Landon greeted from the second level, looking down on us from over the railing by the grand stairs. “Before we begin the ceremony, the King has asked to speak with three specific ladies.”

Whispers erupted around us. Jasmine nudged me and winked, and I felt my cheeks warming.

I hoped I didn’t make it too obvious that I knew Leopold was going to speak with me before any of this. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to have that conversation with him, though. But I also knew that we needed to discuss the kiss, and I had to tell him that I couldn’t continue being his concubine after he marries someone else.

I had so many things I needed to tell him.

In no particular order, the King would like to speak with Vivian,” Landon announced, and the murmurs erupted again. Vivian straightened and Tashed her white teeth. She walked towards the stairwell like she already owned the place, and she clearly wasn’t surprised that the King had chosen her.

On the other hand, my heart sank a little

“Vivian is known to make trouble,” Claira said from beside me, her voice a hushed whisper. “He’s probably just making sure she doesn’t start anything at this ceremony.”

My shoulders relaxed a little, though I tried to keep my expression neutral.

“The second woman he would like to speak with is Cora,” Landon continued, his eyes reading the scroll in his hands.

Cora’s face paled, and her body straightened.

“Me?” She asked, confused.

My heart was heavy as I tried to come up with a reason… any reason… he would want to speak with Cora. But my mind was coming up blank.

I barely registered Landon’s next words.
