Chapter 135
“I miss you…” His voice came out as a whisper.
I was treating him like he’d done something wrong, but he hadn’t. This was all on me, and my heart ached at the thought of him blaming himself because of how I felt. It wasn’t his fault that I had fallen in love with him in both his wolf form and human form. It wasn’t his fault that I could end up hurt at the end of this.
I went into this knowing exactly what was going to happen, and yet I still allowed myself to fall for him. I couldn’t blame him for this.
“I miss you too,” I admitted to him. “I’m sorry for avoiding you.”
“So… you admit it,” he said, the corner of his lips lifting slightly.
I rolled my eyes, trying to keep my own lips from lifting as well.
“Maybe,” I tell him, my tone teasing. “It’s just easier this way because soon, I will have to leave here.”
“I wish you didn’t,” he told me, and I could tell he meant it even if he would forget that he said it the moment he met his true
mate.
“Me too,” I say in return because that was the only thing I could think to say.
“Come back to your room. Won’t bother you tonight. But… you deserve to sleep somewhere comfortable for the time you’re here for.”
The sincerity in his voice made my heart squeeze painfully in my chest.
I nodded in agreement.
“Alright,” I tell him after a moment.
Warren walked with me back to my room on the other side of the palace. True to his words, he went back to his own room down the hallway and didn’t bother me for the rest of the night.
By the time it was morning, it felt like I hadn’t slept at all. I couldn’t stop replaying that conversation in my head despite how hard I tried to shut it down. I had grown restless in the morning and didn’t feel like waiting for Anna to arrive with my breakfast.
So, I put on one of my dresses and pulled my hair into a braid, so it was out of my face before I headed out of my room and towards the concubine lounge.
Maybe having some tea with the girls would help clear my mind a little. I had to go to training with Leopold in a couple of hours, and I wasn’t sure how I was going to survive being that close to him. The thought made my body tremble, but I swallowed down the feeling and continued towards the lounge.
I could hear voices as I neared the archway, and I knew right away that one of the voices belonged to Vivian. I assumed the other was probably Elora because they seemed to be together so often lately.
“I can’t believe she was seen with another man,” Elora said, a laugh bubbling out of her.
“Yeah, I always knew she was a total slut,” Vivian said. “Now the King will see that he made a mistake by making her his favored concubine.”
Both girls started to laugh.
My cheeks burned.
They were talking about me.
What did they mean when they said I was seen with another man? I tried to think about my entire day earlier, and I couldn’t

think of a time that I was with anyone other than the King himself atid maybe Landon at some point.
Neither of them qualifies as another man, though.
“Oh, hey, Cecilia,” Cora said as she approached. “Are you okay?”
“I uh…” I stammered, unsure of what to say. “I’m not sure. Apparently, I was seen with another man or something.”
She frowned for a moment.
“Oh, yes. I do recall hearing some chatter early this morning. Some of the slaves were speaking about it while they served tea in the lounge. You were seen with a mystery man in one of their chambers. I didn’t really believe it, but the others seemed to have eaten it up.”
