The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133

I thought maybe it was because of my tone and how I spoke to him, but the stillness came right after I called him “Your Majesty.”

“Again,” he said, and without warning, he came at me.

There was no hesitation in his movements, and I didn’t have enough time to react, let alone respond.

I barely blocked him on the first strike; it wasn’t enough to hurt, but enough to knock me backwards, causing my footing to slip. He pressed forward immediately and forced me back again.

I stumbled and fell backwards.

The dirt was cool against my palms as I caught myself, my breathing uneven-not entirely from pretending that I’m a weak Omega… though most of this training session hadn’t been training. I’m just so lost in thought and desperately trying not to feel anything for this man that I’m distracted and not able to defend myself properly.

A shadow cast over me, and I knew it was because Leopold was standing directly over me.

“Get up,” he said, his tone low and dangerous.

I didn’t argue with him. I slowly stood, brushing the dirt off my pants. I needed to keep my hands busy, or they would reach out and grab him of their own accord. I couldn’t let that happen.

“You weren’t this bad before. What changed?”

His question caught me off guard, and I felt my cheeks burning.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night,” I admitted, and then I instantly regretted bringing up last night, and I clamped my lips shut.

“Couldn’t imagine why,” he said, and for a second, I thought I heard a bit of humor in his voice, but it was gone in an instant when he said this next part. “What happened to the training your pack? I was impressed with your skills the other day.”

I looked up at him, his eyes were narrowed and pouring into the. I thought my heart was going to beat right out of my chest.

When I didn’t respond, he rolled his eyes.

“You’re dismissed for the day. Go rest.”

I frowned, confused.

“We still have another 30 minutes,” I remind him.

“You’re clearly too tired to continue. We aren’t getting anywhere today. We will continue tomorrow at the same time. Go to sleep, Cecilia. I won’t tell you again.”

My cheeks flushed at his order, but I didn’t argue with him. Instead, I turned and hurried away from him. With each step, it felt like my heart was aching even more, and it took everything I had not to go back to him.

This was bad.

This was really bad.

I couldn’t have real feelings for King Leopold. The consort ceremony was less than a week away, and I knew that I was going to have to watch him make another woman his queen… it’ll leave me broken.

Over the course of the next few days, things hadn’t improved. I could tell he was growing increasingly frustrated with me and my lack of skills. I was less elegant during elegant training, and during defense training, I was clumsier than usual.

It wasn’t an act, though; every time he touched me, everything inside of me would light on fire, so I tried hard to get him to touch me less. It threw me off course a bit because most of the training included him touching me in some way or another.

After each training session, I would leave before he could criticize me even further.

The nights were the worst, though, because onte Leopold fell asleep, Warren usually woke. He comes looking for me in my bedroom, but I’ve managed to avoid him every time. One night, I returned to my room only to find him seated outside my door, sitting on the ground like a lost puppy.

I hated that I had to avoid him; he spent his entire life alone, and I was his first and only friend at the moment. I couldn’t imagine how lonely he must feel again, and it was all my fault.

If I didn’t have these stupid feelings for both him and Leopold, then I wouldn’t have to avoid them. But here I am… running in the opposite direction, glad that he hadn’t seen me before I saw him.

I couldn’t return to my room because he would find me more easily. So, I slept in different areas of the palace, though I barely got real sleep. I even went as far as to trade clothes with Anna to disguise myself as a slave and use Anna as a decoy.

But I always slept with one eye open out of fear that he would find me.
