Cecilia’s POV
The way he was looking at me sent a chill down my spine, and suddenly it felt like my blood had gone cold.
“Are you seriously angry with me for saving your life?” I asked, my tone way more high-pitched than I meant it to sound.
“I had that handled,” he said through his teeth. “You were being reckless, and it could have gotten you killed.”
“But I wasn’t,” I remind him, putting my hands on my lips. “In fact, I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t done what I did… You wouldn’t have been the one killed.”
“I wouldn’t have let a rogue kill me,” he muttered.
“You are covered in wounds,” I tell him, motioning with my hands across his body. “They are going to take longer to heal because his claws were covered in wolfsbane.”
His eyes snapped in my direction, and they narrowed.
“How do you know that?” He asked.
I stared at him, confused for a moment. But then, he remembered it wasn’t he who had told me about the wolfsbane, it was
Warren.
“Warren mentioned it,” I finally reply after a moment.
For a second, something flashed in his eyes that I couldn’t quite figure out. But before either of us could say another word, rushed footsteps sounded from a distance.
“Your Majesty!”
We turned to see several gammas rushing towards us, along with Landon, his eyes darting around as if he expected more threats.
“What happened here?” Landon asked when he was close enough. “Are you both alright?”
“Some better than others,” I said without thinking, motioning my head towards the King, who scowled.
“I’m fine,” Leopold barked, shaking off Landon’s concern and ignoring my slight dig. “Find who is behind this. That rogue’s claws were laced with wolfsbane.
Landon’s eyes widened.
“Wolfsbane?” He asked. “You’re allergic to wolfbane. You need to get medical attention right away.”
“What I need is to find out who the fuck sent rogues to my palace. They won’t live to see another day,” Leopold’s hands turned to fists, and I could hear them cracking as he tightened them.
“A group is already patrolling the area. You aren’t looking well. You should get to the palace infirmary right away.”
“Not when there are rogues on the loose,” Leopold said, and I thought he was about to walk towards the forest lines, but thankfully, Landon stopped him.
“Your Majesty, I strongly suggest you get yourself checked out. You will be no good to anybody injured.”
“I’m strong enough to continue,” Leopold said through his teeth.
His voice was full of conviction, but I knew better than to believe him. I saw what that rogue did to him, and I could see the exhaustion in his eyes. He was fighting to keep going. It was taking everything he had to stand on his two feet right now.
He was in no condition to go on a rogue hunt.

“We should listen to Landon,” I said before I could think better of it. “If you are truly allergic to wolfbane, then it could be dangerous.”
“Cecilia is correct, Your Majesty. You cannot go on like this,” Landon agreed.
