The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

“Oh, I’m sorry, Your Highness,” I reply, and hurry to fetch his robe. “If you’re cold-”

“No,” he interrupts. “I am going to wash up and rest now I’m done with my werk for today.”

My eyes widen. “Do you… do you want me to assist you with bathing?”

He flashes me a cold look, and my heart skips a beat, “No need,” he says dismissively.

A chill runs through me. Was that too intimate an assumption for me to take out loud?

“Just prepare the tub and then wait for me outside. I will tell you if there’s anything I need,” he says, to my relief.

“Of course, Your Highness.”

I go to the bathroom, hang up fresh towels, and draw him a warm bath. He gestures for me to exit the room before he goes in, and I do, shutting the door as I leave.

After about five minutes of standing at attention by the bathroom door, I hear his wolf again.

Shoulders so sore.

I ignore it at first, but the voice continues, more frustratedly: Shoulders hurt! Back hurts!

Now I’m nervous. I was specifically ordered to remain outside, but there’s no one else around who will massage the Alpha King’s shoulders. Even if there was, I’m almost positive their intrusion wouldn’t be appreciated.

But the voice grows ever lower, slowly but surely climbing towards a roar. The king’s wolf knows I am here, and is angered by my inaction.

Without thinking, I burst through the door and instantly freeze at the sight of Leopold’s naked body in the bathtub.

He looks as surprised as I am, but my eyes find themselves once again drawn to his strong, tanned chest and muscular arms, dotted with water droplets.

I swallow, nervously, suddenly realizing the gravity of my disobedience.

“Sorry, I-“I begin.

“Why did you intrude?” he asks, and his irritation is evident.

“I’m so sorry, Your Highness,” I say, dropping my head and staring pointedly at the floor. “1, um, I forgot to change out the towel in here. I came in to… to do that.”

The excuse sounds pathetic even as it leaves my lips, and I cringe at my stupidity.

“The towel,” he repeats slowly, as if to confirm my display of pure idiocy before him.

I meekly raise the towel clutched in my right hand as a symbolic “yes.”

The Alpha King looks away impatiently and huffs. “Well, then, don’t just stand there like a statue. Come bring it to me.”

“Yes, Your Highness!” I say, and swap out the towel in the bathroom for the one I’ve just brought in.

I bow and walk towards the door, but right before I reach it, I stop abruptly and turn around.

“Was there something else the king asks, more testily this time.

“… I noticed that your shoulders look pretty tense,” I say tentatively. “If you want, I could… massage the knots out for you.”

Leopold just stares at me.

“I’m pretty good at it,” I add unhelpfully.

One second goes by in silence. Two… Three… Four…

I go to take a step forward, wondering if he might just be averse to verbally accepting my offer. He may be too proud to ask for help, but either way, I have to do something before his wolf takes control.

Suddenly, his arm shoots out, and he grabs my wrist firmly and pulls me close to him. My knees buckle and I almost fall to the ground, but I am able to catch myself on the edge of the tub with my free hand.
