Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Lillian’s POV

After closing the door, I stayed near it, unsure what to expect.

Grayson stood from the wheelchair and stretched. Then he tucked the wheelchair to the side of the room, hiding it away near his desk.

He made no moves toward me, not to continue our activities from last night or otherwise. He seemed entirely caught up in his own world, not paying me any attention, so much so that I started to feel foolish for allowing myself even a moment to consider that he might have wanted me.

“Why are you hiding there?” he asked, not looking at me. “Nothing has changed about this room since the last time you were in it.”

“I know, I just…”

I couldn’t tell him I had been thinking he might want to touch me like he had the night before! Nor could I tell him that in my nervous anticipation, I had partially wanted that!

hank you,

“I said. “You saved my life last night, and then today… The Queen was going to sentence me to death. If you hadn’t arrived…”

“I wasn’t doing anything you haven’t earned.”

“You could have left me to die. Instead, you ruined all of your plans. Was it all just to save me?” I asked.

He looked back at me, and his eyes softened, ever-so-slightly, just enough to steal my breath away. Slowly, he walked toward me, and I nearly gasped, that same anticipation snapping back into me. He started lifting his hand and I nearly moaned. Goddess, I wanted him to touch me so badly that I ached with it.

My cheeks flushed, embarrassment and heat flashing through me. Would he put his hand between my thighs again? Or would he my most sensitive nub with his tongue?

my thighs together, but I was already wet. Could he scent that? Or sense it in some other way? Just near him made me want him like crazy. Did he not feel the same? How could he so easily resist it while I struggled?

To my great regret, he lowered his hand down without ever touching me.

“I didn’t do this for you,” he said, looking away. “This ruse was taking too long. By coming forward, the hidden tensions in the palace are all accelerated, but under my control. They’ve taken me by surprise too many times. No longer. Never again.”

When Grayson looked at me again, he was the picture of composure, with any bit of softness missing as if it had never been there at all.

I felt the loss keenly, and wondered if I had imagined any trace of affection in him toward me. Maybe I’d dreamed the way he’d made love to me. Maybe, in reality, he had simply used his fingers again, or even if he had used his

tongue, it hadn’t been as romantic as I had imagined.

He moved away then, returning to his work. I stepped into the bathroom to take a cold shower and prepare for bed. The day had been too long, and everything hurt. I was safe, which I was grateful for, by my heart still ached, my wolf still whimpered.

I still felt Grayson’s rejection all the way into my bones.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. Too much had happened, and I felt wired. Even with my cold shower, I hadn’t been- able to fully chill the heat that lingered in my core, begging for my mate’s attention. The best I could do was ignore it, but it still kept me awake long into the night.

I tried to keep myself perfectly still, even after Grayson had drifted off to sleep, the steady rise and fall of his breaths giving him away.

But then he rolled toward me. I glanced at him nervously, but his eyes were still closed, his breathing still giving away his sleepiness. A moment passed. Then two.

I exhaled the breath I had been holding, trying to relax. He had just been trying to get comfortable. I was going to begrudge Grayson for being a side-sleeper.

But then, in a flash, he reached out for me, tugging me across the length of the bed and up against him, into the curve of his body.

My body came alive and I bit back a whimper at the last minute. Relief surged through me as I was finally touched by my new mate. My wolf practically purred within me, settling in a way that she hadn’t in a long time, maybe

ever.

Grayson buried his face in the crook of my neck and shoulder, then back, to nose at the mark. Suddenly, like this, it didn’t hurt so much.

If only things could have been like this from the beginning. If he could have touched me, soothed me, since the bond was made. Maybe I wouldn’t have gone through a full day of pain, feeling restless and unloved.

Now, under his hands, his lips gentle on the scarred skin, I felt cared for. Even if it wasn’t love, I could feel the affection. The protection. The connection with my mate.

The bond between us strummed pleasantly, growing stronger. His wolf was no longer manifested, but I could still feel it alive inside of him, reaching out to me and mine.

. I hadn’t thought I would find sleep tonight, but held like this, it didn’t take long for the comfort to spread,

relaxing my muscles and my frightened, wounded heart. Feeling Jason’s breath on my skin, with his strong arms around me, his warmth chasing away all the shadows and doubts, I was quickly lulled into a sense of security.

It wasn’t long after that when sleep finally pulled me under.

I blinked my eyes open in the morning. Grayson was gone, but in his place, was the firm and warm ghost figure of his projected wolf. Seeing me awake, it leaned in and left soft licks on my cheeks and nose.

I giggled, unable to stop myself under the onslaught of puppy affection. I combed my fingers through the wolf’s fur, marveling at how very real he felt for only being a manifestation.

Inside my own wolf chuffed jealousy, and I inwardly apologized for lacking the ability to manifest her as well so that the two wolves could play together.

Looking around the room, I was confused when I didn’t initially see Grayson. Though, now that his secret was out, he was no longer confined to this room. He could have been anywhere he wanted to be.

The bathroom door opened and relief rose inside of me. Grayson hadn’t left me. He was still here. He stepped out of the bathroom, dressed for the day. He gave his wolf a withering look. “Stop fawning over her,” he scolded.

The wolf lowered it’s head, ears drooping. While the wolf did stop licking, he didn’t pull away, instead carefully rapping around my side more carefully.

“I don’t mind,” I said, searching his eyes for any recollection of what he’d done last night, how he’d held me.

He met my gaze with his usual cold one. Of course. He had been asleep, why would he remember?

With a sigh, I said, “Maybe we should have a talk about boundaries.”
