Chapter 70
Ophelia was barely containing her rage, breathing heavily through her nose. Her lips were still twisted into a smile, but her eyes shot daggers at me.
Grayson was only considering his parents.
Prime Beta, to my surprise, was glaring at the back of Grayson’s head, his disapproval clear.
Some worry rose up within me. Just how impulsive had been this decision of Grayson’s to come here? To save me?
And did Prime Beta disagree?
“We should speak of this privately,” the Queen said. “We have much to discuss, and Lily should be rewarded for bringing you back.”
“I need no reward,” I said at once.
“Nonsense,” the Queen insisted.
“I’m sorry, step-mother,” Grayson said. “But perhaps we could delay such an event. I am weak from this exertion, and… as I’m sure you can understand, I would like to spend more time alone with my new mate.”
I blushed again, even hotter than last time.
The King chuckled. The Queen closed her eyes for a moment as if shielding her reaction.
Ophelia’s reaction was more visceral, her glare finding me once more. If looks could kill, I would have been dead
on the floor.
Grayson paid none of them any mind. “Lillian, please help me back to our room. I’d like to continue things…”
“Yes, of course. At once,” I said, speaking so quickly that words all rolled into one another.
Prime Beta stepped back, giving me access to the handles of Grayson’s wheelchair. As quickly and steadily as I could, with the whole of the room watching – the Elder Council, the King and Queen, the court, Calvin, Ophelia – pushed Grayson toward the door.
In the hallway, he sighed, but didn’t say a word. Still, that little sigh added new tension to my body. I had no idea what to expect when we would finally reach his room.
My heart was racing. He’d told the court we would repeat last night, A memory of that flashed through my mind, his head buried between my thighs as he licked me to climax, drawing noises from me that I had no idea that I
could make.
I pushed those thoughts away, condemning them, especially as Prime Beta joined us in the hallway.
“I must once again voice my displeasure with this choice,” Beta said. Clearly this hadn’t been their first argument about this.
“I have already heard your arguments and dismissed them,” Grayson said. “Besides, it’s too late to change anything now.”
As we reached the bedroom, I moved ahead to open the door.
“Alpha, please. She can’t be worth all this.”
I froze. Beta had to know that I was close enough to overhear, but he just didn’t care. He didn’t see me as worthy

of his prince, and he’d been right about that. But to say so when I was close enough to hear? Especially now that I carried Grayson’s mating mark?
“Without Lillian, that poisoning attempt would have been successful and I would be dead,” Grayson said.
Prime Beta straightened, looking stricken.
“Please show more respect to your Luna Princess,” Grayson continued. “I need to know that I can trust you with her safety, as I trust you with mine.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Prime Beta said at once.
Grayson wheeled himself forward into the room. As he passed me, I glanced back at Prime Beta, who looked at me with an expression I had never seen before.
It almost looked like… regret.
He blinked and it was gone, covered behind his steely façade. But even that was somewhat different now. He didn’t look at me with a hint of disdain any longer. His expression was blank, but it held no malice.
He turned then and walked down the hallway. I carefully closed the door behind him.
Alone with Grayson, I swallowed hard, then turned to face him.
