Chapter 60
Lillian’s POV
+15 Bghus
We made it to the very edge of the property, right up to a shed that looked to be filled with garden tools/
“The Queen… is in there?” I asked, not feeling so sure about this anymore.
“Not yet, but she will meet you,” the servant said. Something changed about her tone. No longer was she lilting, a quiet and dutiful servant. Now she stood taller, a dark look in her eye.
“What is this?” I demanded. “The Queen wouldn’t come here.”
The servant, looking at me, tilted her head to one side. “Are you so sure about that, Princess? Maybe you should just wait here.”
“I don’t think so,” I said, and started to turn.
Yet before I could get away, the servant produced a needle and lunging at me, jabbed it straight into my arm.
I reached for it, to remove it. While I did, she shoved me into the shed and slammed closed the door behind me. Metal screeched and what sounded like a lock clicked into place from outside.
Grabbing the needle, I pulled it out of my arm and threw it down to the ground. Then I rushed for the door. The handle was stuck, locked. I tried pounding on the door instead, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Hey!” I shouted. “Open this door!”
“Just get comfortable, princess,” the servant said. “You won’t be in there for very long. At least not alone.” She laughed.
My gut twisted. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
Suddenly, a rush of heat came over me so strongly that I doubled over from the pain. The heat prickled over my skin, making my hands shake, my fingers tremble.
“What… is… this…..?” I called, but if there was a response, I couldn’t hear it over the pounding in my ears.
Was that my heart? Why was it beating so loudly?
The heat started to pool in the pit of my gut. Then, lower.
With growing dread and disgust, I realized just what had been in that needle. That servant, or whoever she was really, had drugged me, triggering my heat.
I knew for certain, because this had happened to me before. In the past, I had unknowingly sought out Grayson, who had worked me through it with his fingers. But now, trapped in this windowless shed, I was alone.
Or… what had she said?
You won’t be in there for very long. At least not alone.
My stomach dropped. Was someone coming here? When I was in this state… how would I survive it?
I didn’t want to lose my virginity this way! And to an unknown person!
I pounded on the door with renewed fervor, but my strength was giving out. All of my nerves, my senses were starting to reflect inward. To my heat. To what I needed.

Release.
Mate.
Touch me.
Please.
A moan forced its way out of my mouth. I put both hands over my face to quiet it, yet it still came out.
I couldn’t let this happen. I had to keep my head. No matter what, I couldn’t let someone assault me. In this state,
I didn’t know if I would be able to push a male away, even if the thought of them touching me repulsed me.
My body ached all over, and only the touch of an Alpha would do.
“No…” I mumbled, wrapping my arms around myself. I pressed my thighs together, trying to give myself temporary relief. It wasn’t working.
I fell to my knees, and then to the floor. I curled into a ball, the heat too quickly becoming pain.
I needed to be touched, and soon. I needed a mate.
I squirmed on the dirty floor, hating myself.
Even as my heart cried, Grayson.
Grayson, please!
Maren’s POV
It wasn’t enough for me to stop Calvin myself. He would likely just brush me off or send me away. I had seen how he had treated Lillian in the past, and knew that with how little he now considered me, that he would likely not be against treating me the same way.
No. If I actually wanted to stop this, I needed to think bigger. Bolder. I needed people there he couldn’t just send
away.
If I wanted to destroy Lillian, I needed those would also wouldn’t turn a blind eye where the royal family was
concerned.
That meant I needed Ophelia.
I rushed back into the ballroom, not caring who would see at this point. I had a singular purpose, and I wasn’t going to be swayed from it.
Ophelia and her friends looked at me like I was dirt as I approached. But right now, I didn’t care what they thought. I didn’t need them to agree with me, or to like me. I just needed them to follow, to see with their own eyes what I knew was happening.
“Weren’t you thrown out?” Ophelia asked.
“Were you running?” asked one of her followers.
“Why are you out of breath?” asked a third.
“You have to follow me,” I said to Ophelia, knowing the rest would follow her if the others agreed.
“What? No. Why in the hells would I do that?” Ophelia stuck up her nose at me.

“Because I could lead you to Lillian,” I pressed.
“What do I care about that?”
“Right now, she’s cheating with Calvin,” I said. “And I know where.”
Suddenly, the mood of the group shifted. They stopped talking amongst themselves and looked at me with full interest. Ophelia considered me now, where before she had been ready to dismiss me.
“Isn’t Calvin your fiancé?” one of the followers asked.
“All the more reason I want Lillian caught,” I said.
Ophelia hummed, and I could see the calculating gears in her head turning. “If we can expose her as a cheater, then she would be publically shamed and cast out.” The idea delighted her enough to turn her lips upward. Once she is gone, Grayson will be free again. For me.”
Whatever. She could have whoever she wanted. I just wanted Lillian punished and Calvin freed.
“Show me,” Ophelia said. She turned to her followers. “Let’s go. Gather as many people as you can as we go by. Tell them whatever you have to. Secret party, whatever. I don’t care. Just get eyes there.” To me, she said, “Pull this off, and I’ll put you on the court when I’m made true Luna Princess.”
“Yes,” I said. Maybe I didn’t need Calvin, after all. If I could attain my own connections, my own power, then I wouldn’t have to put up with his cheating and his cruelty any longer. “This way.”
I gestured, and they all followed me out onto the balcony. The followers gathered folks as we walked, so by the time we reached the bottom of the balcony stairs, we had accumulated a large amount of onlookers.
All ready to have an eyeful of something they couldn’t possibly imagine.
I followed the path I had seen the servant take Lillian down, with Calvin close behind.
At the end of the path was a gardener’s shack. That had to be it.
“This is where they have their rendezvous?” Ophelia scoffed, disgust clear.
I hurried forward, wanting to be the one to open the door. I grabbed the handle, turned and pushed in the door.
The shed was empty.
