Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120

Lillian’s POV

My teacher stilled as his eyes focused on me. “Lillian?” Recognizing me, he lowered his bow at once. “What in the hells are you doing here?”

“It’s a long story,” I said. “What are you doing here? You vanished so suddenly.”

“I’m sorry about that,” he said.

“It’s fine. I’m just… I’m so happy to see you.”

He stepped back and I got out of the car. If I was younger, I would have hugged him in greeting, but many years had gone by since the last time I had seen him. I had no idea how to react now, what would be appropriate.

I didn’t have to question for long, before he came forward and pulled me into a hug himself. “It’s been too long, Lily. I’m sorry I haven’t visited.”

As he ended the hug, I smiled at him. The smiled didn’t last though as I glanced around, seeing rogues with bows stepping out from behind nearby trees.

“Teacher!” I said quickly, hoping to alert him. We could fight some of them, but not all. Gods, I hoped their arrows weren’t dipped in poison.

“Calm, Lillian,” he said, placing his hand on my shoulder. “They are with me.”

I turned my confusion on him. “They are rogues.’

“Yes,” he said. “As am I.”

My brow drew together. “But… you were in my pack…”

“Secretly. Hiding. Didn’t you think it odd how I traded you lessons for the table scraps you could sneak away?” He laughed. “But don’t be too caught up on alliances, Lily. I go where I’m most needed. I help where people are being hurt. Right now, that puts me on the side of the rogues.”

“So it’s true,” I said. “I’ve heard… The Royal Army have been attacking the neutral lands?”

Teacher nodded. “Many have been hurt and killed. The Royal Army has become a team of barbarians. But this is no place to talk of this. We should go to my camp. It will be nightfall soon. You can rest there before you head home.”

“But I -”

“Wherever you thought you were going, you aren’t,” Teacher said. “You are turning right back around and heading to safety.”

I considered his words, but, “Teacher. I don’t think anywhere is safe.”

This time, he looked at me with surprise and confusion. “What do you know?” he asked.

I had no qualms telling him, he was a man I deeply trusted and respected, even if he was with the rogues, yet before I could say a word, one of the other rogues called out.

“Lone Archer, that man is coming back.”

Teacher looked at me.Who is this man you are with?”

As much as I trusted Teacher with my life, could I trust him with Grayson’s too? I wouldn’t take that risk, but neither would I lie. Teacher would likely be able to see through that.

“He’s my mate,” I said, a truth, even if it felt like a stretch.

Teacher narrowed his eyes marginally, but then lifted them toward the town, where Grayson had disappeared to, where he was presumably returning from.

“Hopefully he won’t act rashly to our presence,” Teacher said.

I held my breath, hoping that too.

Looking where he was, I waited, but I didn’t have to wait long before Grayson appeared, bounding forward. At once, he clocked the danger, his eyes darting around at all of the rogues, and more than even I could see. But he didn’t slow, not until he reached the front of the car and Teacher told him, “Stop.”

Grayson’s hands were in fists, his malice so palpable even I could feel it. He was ready to fight, even against these odds, even against Teacher.

“I’m okay,” I said. “Gray…m. Graham, I’m okay.”
