Chapter 113

Grayson’s POV

I had given explicit instruction to Lillian for her to contact me when she had arrived, yet I had heard nothing. When I tried to reach out to her, phoning the Gamma household several times throughout the morning and afternoon, I had been repeatedly told that she was fine, just busy, and no, she couldn’t spare even a minute to speak to her mate, even if he was the prince…

The blatant refusal, couple with the disrespect, had driven me to annoyance. I had been certain that Lillian had simply not been told about my calls, else she would have found a way to answer them. But, as I had also given her direction to assure me of her safety, that she hadn’t done so set off alarm bells in my mind.

Calvin and the Gamma were overconfident, but I hadn’t known them to be foolish. Had they really thought I would send my mate here for them to imprison or do with whatever they liked? Or had they erroneously thought that I wouldn’t be bothered?

Lily and I had an understanding. We were helping each other. I would not allow her to become a prisoner here, even if I had been detained myself with the Council’s unnecessary tasks.

I

Such monotonous tasks, almost like they had been purposefully given as a ploy to keep me at the palace.

They had insisted that I stay at the palace to help improve my influence, but those who favored Calvin more than me weren’t even there. They had all come here. If I truly wanted to improve my influence with those members, then I should have been here from the start. Then I could have supported Lillian while also winning favor with those who thought the worst about me.

I was done taking advice from the Elder Council. I had already decided that on the long drive over here, but it was doubly decided, firmly cemented, as I walked into the ceremony to see this chaos, including the Gamma dragging my mate by her hair, making threats.

I aligned myself into his path and stopped there. While I tried to remain calm externally. Internally, I was seething. I didn’t care if this man was Lily’s father, he had no right to touch her like that, to lay hands on her, to hurt her. No one did.

All of my muscles were tense. My hands curled into fists. Inside of me, my wolf growled so loudly in my mind that I wasn’t sure I kept all of it from escaping with my words.

“Now, Gamma,” I demanded. One second more of reluctance from him and I was going to cut him down, Gamma or no, witnesses or no.

Even now, we were gathering a crowd. I didn’t know all that had transpired here, but I could determine enough, having seen Calvin flee. Maren was moaning in pain. The Gamma was still holding my mate by the hair.

Finally, he released her. She stumbled a moment before catching herself. I held out my hand, urging her to come to my side where I could properly protect her. Instead, she turned on her father once more,

“Give me the antidote,” she demanded.

Her hair was a mess, her face red from pain, but her features were stubborn, determined. A bit of pride flared up inside of her, seeing her like this.

The Gamma ignored her. “I beg your forgiveness, Prince Grayson. My daughter played a terrible prank that ended with her sister being hurt. I merely wished to bestow punishment, as is my right.”

“It is not your right any longer,” I said. “Lillian is my mate, the Luna Princess. The only ones with the authority

to punish her are myself and my parents, if necessary.” Again I gestured to my side. “Lily.”

She hesitated. “The antidote,” she insisted.

“I understand, your Highness,” Gamma said, bowing to me, still ignoring Lily beside him. “I had forgotten myself. I hope you can understand, hearing Maren in such distress is causing me great confusion. Great pain. This was supposed to be a happy occasion.”

“Then perhaps your main focus should be checking un Maren, if you are so concerned,” I said.
