Sheila originally hadn't planned to tell him.
After all, Cecil already had a terrible impression of Edmond.
Knowing that they used to date only made his disdain for the man even stronger.
Sheila quickly explained, "Tilly got hurt. I was worried, so I came over to check on her."
Cecil knew Tilly was Edmond's daughter.
He scoffed, "What, is Edmond using his kid to get your attention now?"
Sheila sighed in frustration. "It's not like that. Stop making things up."
"Making things up? You think I don't know exactly what he's planning? Sheila, don't let him play you!"
Sheila let out a heavy breath. "Cecil, I know what I'm doing. Tilly is genuinely hurt. I only came here for her."
"So when are you coming back? I'll come pick you up."
"I..." Sheila glanced back at Tilly.
The little girl was staring up at her with big, pleading eyes.
Sheila's heart melted. "Cecil, I'll head back on my own a bit later. Don't worry about me."
"If I don't worry about you, who will?" Cecil's tone grew firmer. "Even if it's just out of respect for Aunt Adah, I can't just leave you alone!"
Hearing him mention her mother softened Sheila's resolve.
"I know. I'll try to head back as soon as I can."
"I'll wait for your call," Cecil said.
Sheila put her phone away, turned around, and crouched beside the sofa.
"Tilly, I have some work to do..."
Tilly's little mouth quivered. "Are you leaving?"
"I'll come back and see you tomorrow, okay?"
Edmond walked over with long strides.
Tears welled up in Tilly's eyes as she blinked up at her dad.
"Daddy, don't let her go... please don't let her go..."
