"Just admiring how handsome you are," Sheila replied.
"What, did you finally get your eyes checked?" Edmond quipped. "Looks like your taste is finally back to normal."
"You're just riding on Tilly's coattails," Sheila said. "Tilly is so cute, I couldn't exactly call her dad ugly."
Tilly chimed in from the side, "Daddy is handsome! Pretty lady is pretty!"
Edmond smiled. "Yeah, she is pretty."
He looked over with amusement in his eyes. "So, is this the part where I say thank you for the compliment?"
"No need to thank me," Sheila replied. "But actually... Tilly doesn't really look like you."
Edmond looked away, his gaze dropping to Tilly's little face.
Sheila thought he would just leave it at that.
Instead, he casually remarked, "Maybe she takes after her mother."
Sheila simply offered an "Oh."
Edmond looked at her again.
Sheila was zoning out once more.
He gently guided Tilly's little arm toward Sheila's hair.
Tilly instantly grabbed a lock of it.
Thinking her dad was playing a game, the little girl burst into a fit of giggles.
Her moods shifted like the wind.
She had already stopped complaining about her leg hurting.
Sheila touched her hair and looked over. "What is it?"
As her hair moved with Tilly's hand, the ends lightly brushed against the back of Edmond's hand.
Edmond reached over and gently pulled the lock of hair from Tilly's grasp.
"Don't pull hair, sweetheart. It hurts."
Sheila shot him a look but stayed silent.
Tilly's background was already a mystery, and now knowing that their blood types didn't match only left Sheila more confused.
Did Edmond know?
If he knew Tilly wasn't his biological daughter, why would he keep her around and raise her?
If he didn't know... did that mean Tilly's mother had deceived him?
