Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 87

"I'm burning up," he complained. "I want a shower."

"Are you out of your mind?" she glared at him again. "Deal with it!"

He reached back and yanked down the blanket.

He didn't have a shirt on because of the wound on his back.

His entire back was exposed—the sculpted lines of his muscles and the sharp definition of his shoulder blades were enough to make any woman swoon.

Looking away, she grabbed a thinner bedsheet from the side and draped it over him.

"Sheila, I never thought..." He lay on his stomach, his voice soft, "that we could be at peace with each other like this again."

She was silent for several seconds before replying, "I have a bad temper. If I offended you before, I apologize."

"You don't need to apologize to me, I haven't been very nice either," he admitted. "Actually... the past is the past. Let's just stop holding onto grudges. What do you say?"

She desperately wanted to ask him: *What exactly are you holding a grudge over?*

*Shouldn't I be the one holding the grudge?*

*I was the one who was betrayed, cheated on, replaced...*

But what was the point of dragging up all those old wounds now?

She and Edmond could never go back to how they were.

It wasn't just the betrayal and the agonizing pain standing between them anymore.

There was his marriage, and his child.

She wouldn't, and couldn't, give him another chance.

"I stopped holding onto it a long time ago," she said flatly. "The past is nothing more than a memory to me now."

Just a memory...

He gave a self-deprecating smile. "Alright, then let's call a truce."

He reached his hand out toward her.

She stood several feet away, rooted to the spot.

He tilted his head. "No?"
