She leaned in eagerly. "Then let's watch together—"
Meeting his freezing gaze, reality crashed back down on her. The nature of their relationship...
It was definitely not at the point where they could huddle around a phone watching home videos together.
But hearing the little girl's voice from the speaker was pure torture.
After a moment, she ventured, "Is Tilly doing well? When is she coming to visit you?"
"I'm not letting her come," he replied. "Hospitals are full of diseases. It's not safe for a kid."
"That's true."
She agreed, casting another longing look at his phone.
He didn't seem to notice; his attention was fully on the screen.
She tried again, "Would you mind... sending me a few of her videos?"
"Send them? How?"
She blinked, suddenly remembering they still hadn't added each other on any social platforms.
And she was the one who had insisted that a phone call was enough.
Well, this was incredibly awkward.
He coolly looked away from her.
Swallowing her pride, she pulled up her QR code. "So... want to add each other now?"
He met her eyes.
"Don't worry, I promise I won't bother you," she rushed to assure him. "Or, you can just send me the videos and delete me right after! That works too!"
"What do you think I am? Your personal delivery service?" he scoffed. "You really are something else, Sheila."
She was the first person brave enough to try and use him like a tool.
"I'm not..." Her voice dropped to a near whisper. "Then what do I have to do for you to add me?"
"Depends on your behavior."
With that, he locked his phone and put it away.
She had always heard the saying that everything has its weakness.
She just never imagined her weakness would be a little girl, leaving her entirely at Edmond's mercy.
