"If you need something, just have Dante message me, and I'll come right over," she offered.
"Since when are you so important that I have to go through a middleman to reach you?"
"Of course you can contact me directly."
"How?"
Meeting his gaze, she suggested tentatively, "Maybe... add each other on social media?"
He practically shoved his phone toward her, muttering, "Since you're so desperate to get my contact info, I suppose I can humor you—"
She cut him off immediately. "If it's such a burden, Mr. Halley, let's just skip it."
He leveled an icy stare at her.
"You already know my number, right?" she pointed out. "We don't need to add each other. Just call me."
His expression darkened even further.
He snatched his phone back. "Who remembers your number? I forgot it ages ago!"
He sounded genuinely angry, leaving her utterly baffled by yet another one of his mood swings.
Finding a pen and paper nearby, she jotted down her number and left it on the table. "Call me if you need anything. I'll try my best to be on call."
It was only ten days anyway. She could grit her teeth and get through it.
That day, a crisis popped up at work, preventing her from stopping by during lunch.
By the time she finally checked the clock, it was getting late, and she noticed several missed calls on her phone.
She quickly called back. As soon as he picked up, she rushed to explain, "I'm so sorry, I was away from my phone. It's been incredibly busy."
"When will you be done?"
She checked her watch. "Probably around four-thirty."
"I'll send a car for you."
She didn't argue. "Okay."
