Exactly as she suspected, Cecil's way of dealing with Marcus Wagner was to kick him out and take over as the sole investor.
When Sheila first heard the news, her immediate thought was:
*This is probably the first project Cecil and Edmond will ever collaborate on.*
*And likely the last.*
However, she had a feeling Edmond would pull his investment before long.
After all, those two mixed like oil and water.
Simon called her, giving her a rundown of things before adding, "Why don't you come back for the holidays? My mom misses you."
"I can't," Sheila replied. "The flights are too expensive right now."
"My mom wants to set you up on some blind dates," Simon warned. "I'm just giving you a heads-up so you can mentally prepare yourself."
Sheila rubbed her temples. "Can't you talk her out of it? When do I even have the time to date?"
"What can I do? She never listens to me."
Now, Sheila really didn't want to go back.
"You can hide for a little while, but not forever," Simon pointed out. "Your best bet is to find a reliable boyfriend on your own."
Sheila hung up with a helpless sigh.
Since her mother passed away, she and Nadine had depended on each other.
Her aunt was a gentle, traditional woman, almost to a fault.
When Nadine married Simon's father, her maternal instincts were entirely poured into raising young Simon, to the point where she never even had children of her own.
Her greatest hope for Sheila wasn't that she would conquer the corporate world.
It was simply that she would marry into a good family and live a comfortable, domestic life.
Her phone rang again. Sheila quickly answered it. "Hector? Is something wrong?"
It was Cecil's bodyguard and assistant, Hector Gable.
