Unable to change his mind, Sheila had no choice but to agree.
The next evening rolled around quickly. They grabbed dinner together before heading to the auction house.
During dinner, Cecil had explicitly told her to pick out anything she liked and he would win it for her.
If she refused, he was just going to bid on random items.
Sheila had spent the entire time trying to think of a polite way to turn him down.
Not long after the auction began, Cecil received a phone call. His expression darkened. "Sheila, wait for me here. I have a situation to handle. I'll be right back."
"Don't rush on my account," Sheila reassured him. "I'll wait."
Cecil gently patted her head before getting up and leaving the hall.
A few minutes later, she heard rustling next to her. Glancing up, she saw Pippa Golding.
Pippa unceremoniously dropped into the seat right beside her.
Sheila immediately withdrew her gaze and went back to flipping through the auction catalog.
"I didn't expect to run into you here," Pippa sneered. "Are you and Cecil really that close?"
Sheila didn't even look up. "Are you and I really that close?"
Pippa choked on her words, glaring at her. "Why are you so defensive? I can't even ask a question? Are you two sleeping together?"
"You see the world exactly as dirty as your own mind is," Sheila replied calmly. "I suppose it makes sense."
"You—!" Pippa took a sharp breath to steady herself. "Sheila, I don't like you, but I'll give you a friendly warning. Since you've latched onto Cecil, stay the hell away from Edmond!"
"Your dream guy is my worst nightmare," Sheila retorted smoothly. "Don't assume everyone is as blind as you are to be obsessed with him."
Pippa looked like she was about to explode with rage.
But on second thought, didn't this prove that Sheila had absolutely no interest in Edmond?
Even so, Pippa still felt this woman was incredibly manipulative.
First it was Edmond, now it was Cecil. The two most powerful men in their social circles were somehow tied to her.
Who would believe she was just some innocent, naive girl?
