She didn't answer it.

Just like Simon Sinclair had always said: an ex should stay buried in the past like they're dead.

She shoved her phone under her pillow.

Soon enough, the ringing stopped.

But before she could even process it, the phone started ringing again.

Sheila pulled it back out, flipped it to silent, and shoved it right back under the pillow.

She went to wash up, then picked up a book, forcing herself not to dwell on the mess outside.

Burying herself in the pages, she escaped into the world of her book.

She didn't know how much time had passed when she finally heard a knock at her door.

Her housing was located inside the research institute compound, so outsiders couldn't just wander in.

Assuming it was Faith, who lived right next door and often dropped by to chat, Sheila didn't think twice. She walked toward the door, calling out casually, "Who is it?"

Since no outsiders were supposed to be able to get in, her guard was completely down as she pulled the door open.

Instead, she was met with a terrifyingly familiar face.

The towering man stood in the doorway, undeniably handsome, but practically suffocating the air around him with a dark, freezing intimidation.

For a split second, Sheila genuinely felt as if he had come to exact some kind of brutal revenge on her.

Like he wanted to kill her right then and there.

Sure enough, when the man finally spoke, his voice was laced with absolute ice.

He demanded, "Sheila, are you completely out of your mind?"

Being insulted out of nowhere instantly obliterated Sheila's usually calm temper.

Especially coming from a man she already deeply resented.

"You're the one out of your mind!" she fired back recklessly. "Edmond, you're not just crazy, you're sick! Who was it that told me to treat you like a stranger? Can I accuse you of meticulously plotting to stalk me now?"
