Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 12

She had ended up falling asleep right on the sofa.

In the middle of the night, Edmond had called his childhood best friend to ask his wife how to properly remove makeup.

His friend had been absolutely stunned. He had even wondered if Edmond had developed some secret kink, like dressing up in women's clothes and rocking a bold red lip behind closed doors.

But that was all in the past. Now, Sheila had a boyfriend.

"Daddy!"

A sweet, childish voice snapped him out of his reverie. Edmond placed the freshly peeled shrimp onto her little plate. "What is it?"

"Your phone is ringing!"

Edmond pulled off his gloves, glanced at the screen, and stood up. "I need to take this."

He stepped out into the hallway and returned the call. It was answered almost immediately.

"Tomorrow at noon, go meet the girl. I've sent you the address."

"I'm not going," Edmond replied flatly. "And you can stop worrying about these things from now on."

"If you won't let me worry, then find someone yourself!" Vivienne Adler snapped. "You refuse to settle down, and yet you won't even let your own mother try to help?"

"Are you really worrying about me, or are you just trying to cash in on a social favor?"

Vivienne's voice faltered slightly. "What kind of thing is that to say? Would I ever try to hurt you?"

"Then let me make this explicitly clear one last time: I am not going on blind dates, and I am never getting married."

"Even if you don't care about yourself, you have to consider Tilly!" Vivienne pleaded earnestly. "Can you really bear to watch her grow up without a mother?"
