Cecil looked up and instantly made eye contact with Edmond.

Living this close was definitely a mistake. They couldn't even go grocery shopping without running into him.

Unfortunately, he had purchased this villa back in the day purely for convenience to avoid hassle.

Trying to find a suitable property at the absolute last minute wasn't going to happen.

Without missing a beat, Cecil slung his arm comfortably over Sheila's shoulder. "Hurry up and pick what you want so we can go home!"

She gave him a confused look, wondering why he was suddenly getting all handsy.

Just as she opened her mouth to tell him off, a familiar voice rang out: "Sheila!"

She turned her head, genuinely surprised. "Tilly?"

If she had bumped into Edmond alone, she would have happily treated him like completely invisible air.

But with the toddler here, basic adult pleasantries felt mandatory.

In front of a child, even the venomous hostility between Cecil and Edmond had to be dialed back.

Tilly reached her little arms out, silently demanding to be held. Sheila gently lifted her out of the cart. "What did you buy today, sweetheart?"

The toddler eagerly babbled off a list of snacks, then turned her bright eyes to Cecil and smiled widely. "Hi, mister!"

Cecil had fully intended to play the role of an unbothered statue.

He would have loved to hurl a few sarcastic insults at his rival, but he knew doing so in front of the kid would genuinely upset Sheila.

He certainly hadn't expected the little girl to greet him so politely.

Arching an eyebrow, he shot Edmond a remarkably smug look before smiling at the toddler. "Aren't you a polite little thing."

Sheila elbowed him sharply.

He rubbed his nose and behaved.

Edmond's fury exploded in an instant.

He reached over, practically snatching Tilly out of Sheila's arms, shot her a look of pure, unadulterated venom, completely ignored Cecil, and turned on his heel to storm off.
