"It's almost the holidays. Can you just leave it alone for a few days?" his voice was like crushed ice.
"Leave it alone? You're actively trying to drive me to an early grave!" Vivienne shouted furiously. "Are you really going to just sit back and watch her drag my reputation through the mud?"
He didn't want to waste another word on this.
Vivienne had recently cycled through another boyfriend, a man over a decade her junior.
A while ago, she discovered he was cheating on her. In a fit of rage, she had her people catch them in the act and beat the man half to death.
Someone had recorded the incident and was threatening to leak the footage.
The Halley family absolutely could not afford a scandal of that magnitude.
But since Chauncey Halley couldn't be bothered to clean up his wife's messes, Edmond had to rush back to the country to deal with the fallout.
To make matters worse, the mistress Vivienne's boyfriend had been seeing was pregnant.
The beating orchestrated by Vivienne had caused severe complications, and the baby was lost.
Even after all that, she refused to let it go.
She wanted the woman dead.
Left with no other choice, Edmond personally ensured the woman received emergency surgery and relocated her to a secure facility to recover.
And still, Vivienne wouldn't stop screaming for blood.
Listening to the vile curses pouring out of the phone, he finally snapped. "Do you even remember who you are?"
She used to be the elegant, untouchable heiress of the Adler family.
Now, she was the matriarch of the Halley family.
Yet she had reduced her own life to an absolute joke.
"Who I am?" she sneered. "The Halley family is a blazing inferno. Do you honestly expect me to care about its precious reputation?"
*Even if you don't care about the family, couldn't you at least think of your own son?*
Without another word, he ended the call.
Returning to the living room, he sat on the sofa, quietly watching Tilly.
