Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 10

Stepping out of the restaurant and into the cool night air, Sheila finally let out a long breath.

Marcus was holding their funding hostage. She couldn't afford to genuinely piss him off, otherwise, her mentor's life's work would go down the drain. As long as he signed the paperwork, she could just hide in the lab forever. There would be absolutely nothing he could do about it.

Distracted by her thoughts, she wasn't looking where she was going. By the time she caught the blur of motion out of the corner of her eye, it was too late.

A little girl darted around the corner, slammed straight into her leg, bounced off, and landed flat on her behind.

Someone yelled from down the hall, "Tilly!"

Sheila immediately dropped to her knees, gently pulling the child up. "Are you okay, sweetheart? Did you hurt yourself?"

The little girl was absolutely gorgeous, with massive, watery eyes that blinked up at her innocently.

A woman in her forties rushed over and scooped the girl up. Suddenly shy, Tilly buried her face into the woman's neck, stealing timid glances at Sheila.

The woman smiled apologetically. "I'm so sorry. She was running way too fast. Did she hurt you?"

"I'm completely fine, but running around here is really dangerous." Sheila looked back at the little girl, her voice impossibly soft. "You have to be careful next time, okay?"

She adored children. Back when she was with Edmond, she had even picked out baby names. But then Edmond had crushed her, bluntly stating he never wanted marriage or a family.

And yet, right after they broke up, he had turned around and immediately had a baby with Jewel.

"Apologize to the nice lady," the woman urged. "And say thank you."
