Only the howling sea wind remained on the shore. Rowan watched the yacht drifting further away and turned to Charles. "That gun only holds two bullets in total. She put one in Wesley's leg, which means she only has one shot left."
"I'm going to bait her into using that last bullet on me. After the shot is fired, I'll leave the arrest and rescue operations to you."
Charles could hardly stand by and watch his nephew rush to his death. He was just about to stop him when the maritime law enforcement officers arrived. But Rowan couldn't afford to wait for the patrol boats to slowly form a perimeter. He vaulted onto a jet ski docked at the pier, clipped the safety kill-switch lanyard to his wrist, and slammed the throttle wide open.
The powerful water jets erupted with massive thrust. The low hull of the jet ski hugged the crests of the waves, tearing through the night like an unsheathed blade. It practically flew across the water, its blistering speed matching the cruising velocity of the retreating yacht.
The night wind violently whipped the collar of his shirt, and icy seawater sprayed against his jaw. Right now, his eyes were locked solely on the taillights of the yacht speeding ahead, while the maritime patrol boats scrambled to secure the shipping lanes behind him.
On the yacht, Elara finally spoke up. "Jasmine, Lyra was let go by Finn."
"I can't believe that homewrecker is so seductive she even got to Finn..."
Before Jasmine could reply, Agnes let out a heavy sigh, cutting her off. "What's done is done. Don't blame the boy. We finally managed to get out to sea. Once we safely reach Southeast Asia, we'll change our names and live a good life together."
Inside the helm, Finn glanced at the radar screen and his heart skipped a beat. "Someone's chasing us on a jet ski! They're moving fast, right on our tail!"
Agnes noticed it at the same time. She immediately ordered Jonathan to flip on the searchlight, locking its blinding beam onto the relentless jet ski. She pulled out the gun, but her vision was far too blurry... She couldn't get a proper aim on Rowan no matter how hard she tried.
"My eyesight is failing me. You take the shot," Agnes said, sweating as she shoved the gun into Jasmine's hands.
Jasmine hesitated for a moment. "I can't see him clearly either."
Agnes's face darkened. "Can you really not see him, or do you just not want to pull the trigger?"
"Shoot him! We're almost out of their reach. A man who doesn't love you isn't worth keeping!"
Jasmine rested her finger on the trigger, aiming the barrel from a distance at Rowan's silhouette. After an agonizing moment of hesitation, she slowly lowered her arm, her brow knotting deeply. "Doesn't it strike you as strange? He knows we're standing at the stern with a gun pointed right at him, yet he isn't trying to evade."
"Maybe he's arrogant enough to think he can dodge the moment he hears the shot?" Agnes suggested.
"Impossible," Jasmine frowned. "The roar of the yacht's engine is loud enough to mask the gunshot. By the time he hears it and reacts, it'll be far too late to swerve."
Realizing something, Jasmine quickly popped the cylinder open. Her eyes turned ice-cold. "There's only one bullet left."
The sea breeze whipped the loose hair around Jasmine's face. Her eyes boiled over with raw jealousy. This time, she raised the gun with absolute conviction, locking her sights on Rowan. Her voice was bone-chillingly cold.
"You'd rather risk your own life to keep them safe, wouldn't you? If you love your precious wife and son that much, then I'll happily grant your death wish!"
"No, Jasmine, wait!" This time, it was Agnes who stopped her. "If you really pull the trigger and he manages to dodge it, he won't have any reason to hold back anymore."
Agnes ordered Tabitha to fetch a megaphone and shouted back at their relentless pursuer. "Stop following us immediately! Or I'll pour a gallon of acid right over Lyra's face!"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
