"Come here, Pip..."
Lyra turned around and gently took Pip from Andrea's arms, holding him close. "Say hi to Grandpa," she prompted softly.
Pip's large, round eyes scanned the area curiously. His little brows furrowed as he stared at the photograph on the marble headstone. "Mommy, who's that?"
"That's your Grandpa," Lyra explained patiently.
Pip instantly beamed and yelled in a crisp, sweet voice, "Grandpa!"
A cool breeze swept through the pines, carrying a slight chill. Pip looked around the empty grass, utterly confused. "But... why is Grandpa here?"
Lyra's throat tightened. She paused for a long moment before answering softly, "...Well, this is where Grandpa lives now."
She stood up and looked at her bodyguard. "Andrea, take him back to the car. I have a few more things to tell my father."
"Understood." Andrea immediately picked Pip up and carried him away.
Once they were out of earshot, Lyra leaned against the headstone, her fingertips lightly tracing the cold marble.
"Dad, I finally survived this time. And Pip survived too."
She stared at her father's smiling face in the photograph, a thin layer of tears blurring her vision.
"There were so many regrets in my past life, but now I have Pip, and I'm genuinely happy. We're going to be leaving the city for a while. I'm taking him far away to see the world..."
