In the end, Caspian didn't make the trip back immediately. During a casual visit to Blackwood Manor, Victoria mentioned that he had decided to wait another four months for the New Year's holidays to return to Seaborne City, wanting to spend a proper extended vacation with the family.
Lyra's expression tightened briefly before she smoothly changed the subject, her tone entirely unbothered.
Victoria's attention was fully captivated by Pip, completely oblivious to Lyra's subtle shift in mood.
That night, after reading Pip a bedtime story and tucking him in, Lyra slipped into the study. Rowan was immersed in a stack of documents, but she interrupted him to bring up Waylon Grayson.
"I need you to pull some strings," Lyra said evenly. "Have Waylon extradited back here to serve his sentence."
Eleanor Grayson had been begging anyone who would listen to make it happen for a while now.
Rowan's brow furrowed. "Why? Do you want to see him?"
"I have a question for him."
"About what?" Rowan immediately set his papers down, standing up to face his wife.
Lyra shook her head.
"Tell me." Rowan gently cupped her face in his hands, his gaze intense. "I need to know what this is about. Otherwise, I'll gladly let him rot in a foreign cell for the rest of his life."
Lyra lowered her gaze. "I'll only ask him... when I'm standing right in front of him."
Her eyelashes fluttered nervously at the thought. "I just need to know..."
"He once told me... that you threw me to Lucas Chavez. I need to know if it's true."
The words drove straight through Rowan's chest, sparking a suffocating wave of despair. He gripped her shoulders tightly. "I will be the one to ask him that. If you ask him, he won't tell you the truth."
Lyra stared up into his dark, storm-filled eyes. "Are you feeling guilty about something?"
Lyra's body instantly went rigid. After a moment of heavy silence, she looked up at Rowan. "I'll go see him tomorrow morning."
Rowan leaned down to pick up Pip, signaling for a maid to come take the boy inside. "Waylon is a manipulative sociopath," Rowan warned. "I'm worried he'll twist his words just to get inside your head. I'm going with you. He wouldn't dare lie to my face, and I'll know instantly if he's trying to spin some web of deceit to mislead you."
Lyra nodded in agreement.
After learning just how deeply twisted and unhinged Waylon truly was, the thought of facing him alone sent a chill down her spine.
The next morning, Rowan drove his wife to the Seaborne Maximum Security Prison. After passing through rigorous metal detectors and identity verifications, they were led to a visitation room. Through a thick pane of bulletproof glass sat Waylon Grayson, clad in a bleak prison jumpsuit and looking drastically thinner than before.
The once arrogant, larger-than-life executive was now a hollow shell, his eyes clouded with defeat. But as soon as Waylon spotted Rowan and Lyra, a vicious, predatory glint flared in his gaze.
The silence in the room was suffocating and heavy.
Lyra took a shaky but deep breath. "Waylon. In our past life, you told me Rowan threw me to Lucas Chavez. I never once questioned your word... but I don't believe you anymore. I'm asking you one last time—was that a lie?"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
