She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 642

The dull ache in Lyra's abdomen morphed into a tearing agony, tightening around her waist like a vice. Her legs gave out, and a cold sweat instantly soaked the back of her dress. She gripped the fabric of her skirt with white-knuckled intensity, biting her lip until it was bruised.

"Lyra, what's wrong?" Caspian asked.

Lyra's entire body shook. The facade of bravery she had been clinging to crumbled entirely. "I can't... it hurts too much. It's real. I think I'm going into labor."

Panic seized Caspian's chest. He looked down at her swollen belly, his voice frantic. "That's impossible! It's way too early."

The burning desire for revenge evaporated, replaced by pure terror. He instantly dropped the scalpel on the floorboard. "Wesley, get us to the hospital! Now!"

Wesley didn't need to be told twice. He floored the gas.

"You can't have the baby now, Lyra. Seven months is too soon. The baby isn't fully developed."

With his medical background, Caspian understood exactly how fatal preterm labor could be.

He carefully helped Lyra recline against the leather seats, his hands trembling. "Follow my breathing. Deep, slow breaths. Try to ride out the contractions."

Lyra clutched Caspian's forearm, her chest heaving as she tried to match his rhythm.

After a grueling few minutes, she managed a weak exhale. "It's a little better... Thank you, Caspian... Do you hate me?"

Sweat dripped down her face as she forced the words out. "Back then... when Jasmine said she liked the younger brother, I thought she meant you. I gave you the wrong idea..."

Caspian had completely discarded his animosity. Seeing her drenched in cold sweat, he used his own sleeve to gently wipe her forehead.

"Stop talking, Lyra."

Rowan burst through the front doors of the hospital just in time to see Lyra being transferred onto a gurney.

He sprinted across the lobby, grabbing her icy hand and running alongside the stretcher. His voice shook uncontrollably. "You're going to be okay. I'm here. Don't be afraid."

Lyra gave him a terrified look, her flawless complexion ashen.

Once inside the emergency room, the attending physician performed a rapid assessment. He stepped out moments later, his expression grim. "The contractions have started."

"Who is the father?"

Rowan stepped forward, only to be met with a devastating warning. "It's too early in the pregnancy. This is a high-risk threatened preterm labor. We are doing everything we can to stop it, but the family needs to prepare for the worst."
