Making a mental note of the strange encounter, Wesley casually asked a university staff member, "What brings Mr. Grayson to campus?"
The staff member shook his head. "Waylon has been coming around the university quite a bit lately. As for why, no one's exactly sure. He might be meeting with the dean."
Wanting to avoid any unnecessary drama, Wesley specifically took a different path to steer clear of Waylon. When he returned to the office, he immediately reported the incident to Rowan.
"I saw Mr. Grayson and Mrs. Fairchild taking a walk together on the university campus."
Rowan thought the entire premise was utterly absurd.
In the past, Andrea Nash had mistakenly stolen hair from the twins to run a secret DNA test, which had turned out to be a massive, embarrassing misunderstanding. When Wesley brought up this new suspicion, Rowan dismissed it instantly.
"My wife's sister-in-law is the picture of a devoted wife and mother. If you keep slandering her, you can go ahead and say goodbye to the rest of your salary."
Wesley snapped his mouth shut. Getting involved with the Fairchild family's drama was clearly a fast track to ruin. If his pay got docked again... he was going to default on his mortgage and end up on a debt blacklist.
"I didn't see a thing."
A few days later, Grandpa Alistair traveled from the ancestral estate to Blackwood Manor, specifically bringing a rare, top-tier Prized Ginseng Root for his granddaughter-in-law. He personally handed it to Lyra, instructing her to have the kitchen brew it into a soup to nourish her body during the pregnancy.
Lyra smiled warmly. "Grandpa, ginseng is a bit too potent for me while I'm pregnant. I think I'll save it and slowly incorporate it into my meals after the baby is born."
Alistair chuckled and nodded in agreement. He sat with Lyra and happily chatted with her for quite a while.
That evening, Rowan wrapped up his work and returned to Blackwood Manor. The three of them sat down for a cozy, harmonious family dinner.
Alistair decided to spend the night at the manor. He was an early riser and naturally went to sleep early. While Rowan was finishing up some emails in the study, Lyra kept the old man company in front of the TV. Soon enough, Alistair started nodding off and retreated to the guest room to sleep.
After a warm shower, Lyra switched on her bedside lamp and slipped under the covers. Rowan reached out and pulled her gently against his chest. A soft, affectionate smile played in his eyes. "You treat my grandpa so well. It really touches my heart. I definitely have to reward you tonight."
"Lyra, look who's here!"
Seeing Caspian standing in the foyer of Blackwood Manor gave Lyra a massive shock.
Because Caspian was Rowan's biological brother, Rowan had never officially banned him from the property. The security team saw him arrive with Rowan's mother and completely let their guard down, thinking nothing of it.
But Andrea Nash noticed the subtle shift in Lyra's expression. Having spent enough time protecting her, Andrea knew that whenever Lyra felt nervous or threatened, her first instinct was to cover her pregnant belly.
Andrea's sharp eyes tracked Lyra's protective hand, then shifted toward Victoria and the young man standing beside her. After a brief, calculated assessment, Andrea locked her intense gaze dead onto Caspian.
Caspian stepped forward. "Mom, I want to talk to Lyra alone."
Victoria, completely oblivious to the tension, merely smiled. "Caspian, she's your sister-in-law now. You need to address her properly."
