She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 625

Waylon leaned against his car, the night casting a hard, uncompromising edge over his features. "When Jasmine wakes up, who do you think she'll point the finger at? You, or me?"

Before Lyra could answer, he delivered the brutal reality. "Rowan knows exactly what he's doing. The moment Jasmine is coherent, she's going to pin all the blame on you. And even knowing that, he is still hell-bent on keeping her alive. From start to finish, has he ever genuinely considered your situation?"

Lyra clenched her hands tight, a suffocating wave of despair washing over her. "I'm going to divorce him. The second this baby is born, I'm done."

Waylon's gaze turned frosty. "This child shouldn't even exist. He wasn't there in our past life, so why force fate to bring him into this one?"

"But he did exist." Lyra's voice trembled, a thin sheen of tears blurring her vision. "In our past life, losing him shattered me. It hurt so much I completely gave up on living. Why do I have to suffer the agony of losing him all over again in this life?"

Waylon knew the truth as clearly as a mirror. There was only one chance to rewrite fate, and he had squandered it in a fleeting moment of soft-heartedness. He cursed himself internally, furious that she hadn't stayed in the second-floor lounge during the banquet, wandering up to the third floor instead. If she had been on the second floor, he absolutely would not have stopped Jasmine from pushing her.

A fall from the second floor would only lose the baby. A fall from the third would claim two lives.

Waylon's brows pulled together in a deep scowl as he crushed his cigarette between his fingers, a chaotic flood of childhood memories suddenly rushing back to the surface.

His childhood home had been a war zone. His parents screamed at each other day and night over mistresses and illegitimate children. The shrill, endless arguments drove him out of his mind.

Once, a tiny girl had tilted her sweet face up at him and asked softly, "Are you okay? Why are you crying?"

He had answered gloomily, "My parents won't stop fighting. I heard my dad has an illegitimate child."

The little girl had gasped in innocent wonder. "Is the illegitimate child they're fighting over really expensive? I can buy you one! I have a lot of allowance money."

True to her word, she started digging into her pockets. Helpless and exhausted, he had turned around, ready to walk away.

Suddenly, a few fruit candies tumbled out of her pocket. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly scooped them up. "Have a piece of candy! Sweets make you happy."

He was completely irritated at the time and gave a flat refusal. "I don't like sweets."

But the little girl simply unwrapped a candy, stood on her tiptoes, and popped it right into his mouth. Her bright, sweet voice echoed in his memory: "I don't usually like these either, but this orange one is actually really good. Try it, what do you think?"

He loosened his grip on her arms, gently framing her face with his hands, forcing her to meet his gaze. "Look at me."

Lyra's eyes were red as she pulled away from his touch, her voice completely flat. "Rowan, once this baby is born, let's get a divorce."

Rowan's gaze turned predatory, his tone lacing with disbelief. "We haven't even been married three months, and you're demanding a divorce?"

Right on cue, the phone in his hand vibrated. He answered it, listening to the report on the other end: Jasmine's surgery had been a success, and she was out of danger for now.

Rowan's expression remained passive as he muttered, "As long as she isn't dead." With that, he hung up sharply.

He turned his attention back to Lyra, burying his earlier anger. "Let's go inside first."

The moment they stepped into the grand hall, Delilah ushered everyone to the dining table. The kitchen staff had already laid out dinner. Lyra stared at the spread of food and decided it was best to just eat.
