Panic exploded outside the restaurant. A chaotic chorus of screams and shouts ripped through the crowd as someone shrieked that a woman had plunged straight from the third-floor window.
Rowan pushed through the throng, his eyes locking onto the broken figure bleeding out on the concrete. It was Jasmine.
Up on the third-floor balcony, Lyra leaned over the railing, staring down at the grisly scene. Her eyes collided with Rowan's dark, furious gaze from the ground below.
They stared at each other in pale, suffocating silence for a split second before Rowan barked an order that chilled her to the bone. "Go back inside!"
The next moment, Blake and Will forcefully hauled Lyra away from the edge, Will briefly exposing himself to the crowd below.
Lyra stood frozen by the window, watching from a distance as Rowan stripped off his suit jacket and laid it over Jasmine's blood-soaked body. He scooped her up in his arms and sprinted toward the car.
Wesley practically threw himself into the driver's seat, slamming on the gas the second Rowan was inside.
Victoria, Charles, and Delilah stood paralyzed in shock.
"Was that Jasmine? What is she doing here?"
The celebratory atmosphere of the banquet had been obliterated. Victoria's face drained of color as she instinctively leaned into Charles. "I thought she was overseas."
Charles's brow knotted in heavy concern. He gripped Alistair's arm to steady the older man while trying to project calm to the panicked crowd.
But the venomous whispers were already spreading like wildfire, impossible to silence.
"That woman fell straight from the third-floor balcony. Lyra was the only one up there."
"Do you think they got into an argument and Lyra pushed her? She's pregnant, how could she be so impulsive?"
"It's Alistair's eightieth birthday. How could a fatal tragedy happen today..."
Alistair's authoritative voice cut through the noise. "Quiet down. Stop your baseless speculations until the truth is uncovered."
Furious that the monumental celebration was ruined, Vivienne stormed up the stairs.
"Rowan took her himself because he needs her alive right now!" Andrea said sharply. "If she dies, you become the prime suspect. Everything he's doing is to protect you."
Lyra shot her a chilling, emotionless look. "You and Wesley really are his most fiercely loyal lapdogs."
"Ma'am..."
"Right now, the only thing that matters is figuring out how she fell."
A violent, rhythmic pounding suddenly hammered against the lounge door. Law enforcement had arrived.
The door was shoved open, and two police officers marched straight toward Lyra. With a sharp metallic clink, they pulled out a pair of gleaming handcuffs. "Mrs. Jameson, we received a report that you pushed someone off the balcony."
Lyra lifted her gaze, staring dead at the steel cuffs. A heavy, suffocating silence settled over her before she spoke, her voice dangerously low. "Are those for me?"
She raised her eyes to scan the officers, a freezing chill sweeping through her chest. "The truth hasn't even been investigated, yet you've already decided I'm the culprit. You want me to walk out of here in cuffs to publicly condemn the Jameson family, don't you? How will the headlines read tomorrow? Are you doing this on purpose?"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
