Alistair Jameson's eightieth birthday banquet was held at Eleanor Grayson's upscale restaurant, The Sapphire Room.
That morning, Rowan meticulously picked out a maternity gown for Lyra. The dress flared elegantly to her mid-calf, making it easy for her to walk, and he personally fastened the rose choker around her neck.
Kayla was instantly mesmerized by the gown. "Rowan's taste is impeccable," she praised. "That dress looks absolutely stunning on you."
Lyra pressed her lips together, deflecting the compliment. "He just had a stylist send over a bunch of renderings, and he blindly picked one."
But in reality, every detail—from the silhouette to the fabric—was painstakingly chosen. The material was buttery soft against her skin, expertly tailored to drape beautifully over her baby bump, ensuring she looked breathtaking without feeling the slightest constriction.
In the car on the way to the restaurant, Lyra gripped Rowan's sleeve. A faint, nervous tremor laced her voice as she demanded, "At the banquet tonight, you are not to leave my side for a single second."
"I will stay right beside you," Rowan promised softly. He pressed a warm kiss to the back of her hand and gently smoothed her hair, successfully melting away the anxiety tight in her chest.
They were among the last to arrive.
By the time they pulled up, dozens of luxury cars were already lined up outside the venue, and the rest of the Fairchild family had already settled inside.
As soon as they walked in, Victoria greeted them with an amused smile. "Arriving later than the guests, are we?"
Victoria wore an elegant, dark crimson dress, standing alongside Charles, Alistair, and several other relatives.
After a slightly sheepish greeting to Alistair, Lyra found herself pulled into casual conversation with the extended Jameson family.
The restaurant was packed with high-society elites. The room hummed with loud chatter, laughter, and endless networking.
As the crowd grew denser, Lyra subconsciously stepped closer to Rowan, her fingers locking onto his sleeve. Catching her silent signal, Rowan turned to the relatives swarming them. "I'm going to take my wife upstairs to rest for a bit. We'll come back down when dinner is served."
Standing nearby, Maisie covered her mouth to hide a laugh. Catching Rowan's sharp, warning glance, she immediately scurried over to Alistair's side for protection.

Meanwhile, Eleanor Grayson was busy managing the kitchen and staff. Glancing around the bustling venue, she realized she hadn't seen Waylon anywhere. She couldn't understand why he hadn't come downstairs to join the party yet.
Eleanor marched up to the west wing, far from the guest area, and pushed open the door to a private bedroom.
Sure enough, Waylon was inside, adjusting his tie in the mirror. It was a single bed, and Eleanor had never once seen him bring a woman here.
Eleanor sighed, her tone dripping with frustration. "Rowan and Caleb both have children on the way, yet you're still completely single. I still remember when you were ten, you had a huge crush on that little girl. She called you sweet names and gave you candy, and you were so incredibly happy. I've never forgotten it. Why is it that now that you're a grown man, you've completely shut yourself off?"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
