She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 618

Over the next few days, Rowan was tied up with business dinners and couldn't join them for meals. However, he always returned to sleep at the Fairchild estate. Whenever he arrived late, either Mrs. Whittaker, the bodyguards, or Liam would leave the door unlocked for him.

One evening, Rowan finished work unusually early, returning to the bedroom before the sky had completely darkened.

Lyra looked up, pleasantly surprised. "Have you eaten?"

"Grabbed a quick bite at a business meeting," Rowan said, walking over to pull her into his arms. He looked down at her, his gaze melting into pure tenderness. "Are you happy, getting to stay at your family's house?"

"Mm." Lyra wrapped her arms loosely around his neck, her eyes curving into a bright, natural smile.

Her dresser drawer was pulled halfway open, revealing an assortment of sparkling, delicate hair clips.

Rowan noticed a crystal clip nestled in her thick hair—a clear sign she was in high spirits.

"Your checkup is tomorrow, right?" he asked softly.

Lyra shook her head, a triumphant glimmer in her eyes. "Tricked you. I went to see Dr. Gable by myself today. I passed every single test with flying colors."

Reaching into her small purse, she pulled out a 4D ultrasound scan, carefully unfolding the paper and holding it up for him to see. "Look. This is Pip's very first photo in this world."

In the ultrasound image, the tiny silhouette of their baby was perfectly clear.

Rowan stared at the thin piece of paper, his chest instantly tightening with an overwhelming, crushing wave of emotion.

Unable to hold back, he leaned down and pulled Lyra tightly into his embrace. His lips captured hers in a tender, consuming kiss, his tongue sliding smoothly past her parted lips to tangle with hers.

Lyra's heart hammered frantically against her ribs.

Rowan lifted her effortlessly, placing her gently onto the mattress. His gaze swept over the bed, noticing the light purple sheets she had laid out today.

Lyra pounded her fists weakly against his shoulder, exerting a surprising amount of effort just to push him a few inches away.

Rowan's breathing was ragged and heavy. He dipped his head to steal one last quick kiss from the corner of her mouth, chuckling darkly. "I never thought the day would actually come where I'd get to sleep in your purple bed."

Lyra blinked in utter confusion, completely missing the loaded implication behind his words.

Rowan brushed his knuckles sensually against her cheek, his tone turning teasingly demanding. "I kept my word and handled The Tate Family without utterly destroying them. Don't I get a reward for being so merciful?"

Lyra pressed her flushed lips together and retorted softly, "I just gave you your reward."

"Fine." Rowan let out a low, rumbling laugh, grabbed his towel, and headed for the shower.

The days drifted by. Victoria and Charles Jameson visited multiple times, never arriving empty-handed. They had their staff carry in bags overflowing with luxury supplements—bird's nest, sea cucumber, and premium herbal ingredients—filling half the storage room. Seeing how deeply they valued Lyra, Delilah couldn't help but soften her attitude toward Rowan.

On the nights Rowan came back late, Delilah even took it upon herself to brew him hangover tea.

Two days later, Rowan received a call on his private line from his overseas surveillance contact. Recognizing the number, he immediately turned away from Lyra and lowered his voice.

"Mr. Jameson, Jasmine Ford has secretly returned to the country."

Rowan's gaze cut sharply toward Lyra before he hissed into the phone, "Why did she sneak back?"

"Her exact motives are still unclear, but we did find out she's been dating a new boyfriend abroad. They're extremely close."

A flash of shock, instantly swallowed by lethal coldness, crossed Rowan's eyes.

Lyra happened to look over at that exact moment. Half of his face was cast in shadow, but the dark, murderous tension radiating from him made her heart stutter. "What's wrong? Did something happen?" she asked, walking over.

Terrified of causing her any prenatal stress, Rowan hung up the phone and lied smoothly. "Just an issue at the construction site."

Her intuition prickling, Lyra probed further. "Jasmine is still overseas, right?"

"Yes, she's overseas."

Almost immediately, his phone buzzed again. This time, it was Victoria. "Caspian wants to come back. He said he missed your wedding, and he wants to be here for Grandpa's birthday."

"Absolutely not," Rowan snapped, and hung up.
