She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 588

All the color drained from Jasmine's face. "W-Why?" she asked, a wave of suffocating despair crashing over her.

"It was Rowan's decision. I couldn't change his mind." Victoria met her gaze with cool detachment. "You've known this was coming for a long time, haven't you?"

Jasmine clung to a desperate shred of hope. "But what about the wedding this Sunday? How will the Jameson family explain a wedding without a bride?"

"Someone else will be taking your place."

With that final, devastating blow, Victoria turned on her heel and walked away without a backward glance.

An icy chill settled into Jasmine's bones. She knew exactly who was replacing her—it was that bitch, Lyra.

Tabitha's eyes locked onto the check, a calculating gleam flashing through them. She gently pulled her devastated daughter into a hug. "With these ten million dollars, we can buy a nice, spacious house out in the suburbs. We'll finally have a stable home, and we won't have to worry about paying for your brother's college tuition anymore."

Jasmine's heart sank into her stomach. Was her own family really giving up on her for a payout?

"But I genuinely love Rowan," she choked out, tears spilling down her cheeks. "I love him. I really do. Why doesn't anyone believe me?"

Tabitha tightened her arms around her weeping daughter. "I know how much you care about him, sweetie, but he doesn't love you."

"You can't have children anymore. Even if Lyra hadn't stepped in, you never would have made it into the Jameson family. We've managed to hide the truth from them for now, but once you married him, your infertility would have been exposed eventually. The only one left humiliated would be you."

Jasmine buried her face in her mother's shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably. "I hate her. I hate her so much... Why is Victoria siding with her now?"

"My guess is she's pregnant," Tabitha reasoned with a heavy sigh. "Victoria wouldn't have pulled a complete 180 otherwise. It's just the hand we were dealt..."

The words hit Jasmine like a freight train. She froze in sheer disbelief, her hands trembling uncontrollably as an icy numbness took over.

"Listen to me," Tabitha urged softly. "Don't go looking for trouble with Lyra anymore. If you do, losing this money will be the least of our problems. We have to play the long game."

"She's eating light tonight. Don't worry about her."

A few minutes into the meal, Caleb couldn't take it anymore. "Rowan, did someone slip laughing gas into your food?"

"I swear you've smiled more in the last ten minutes than you have in your entire life."

Rowan shrugged easily. "I just remembered something funny."

Delilah walked out of her bedroom just in time to witness the exchange. She couldn't believe Rowan actually had the nerve to show his face in her house. Every fiber of her being radiated disapproval.

She still firmly believed that Zane Sutton was a much better match. A million times better.

She couldn't help but compare the two men in her head. The more she thought about it, the more she realized how thoughtful and utterly flawless Zane was. If she hadn't been so prejudiced back then, she would have married Lyra off to Zane in a heartbeat.
