Early the next morning, Victoria arrived at the Fairchild residence with three cars packed full of gifts. Limited-edition jewelry and exquisite artwork were all part of the extravagant display.
Delilah wasn't pleased. In fact, she frowned. Victoria hadn't set foot in the Fairchild home in a long time; her sudden appearance meant she wanted something.
A maid served tea.
Delilah picked up her teacup, her gaze casually sweeping over the mountain of gifts piled in the entryway. "You've made quite the grand entrance today, Victoria. Is there a special occasion?"
Victoria maintained a warm, polite smile. "Delilah, I've watched Lyra grow up. My husband and Rowan have always adored her. Rowan has been so guarded over the years, but he cares deeply for Lyra. As parents, we see it clearly."
Delilah raised an eyebrow. "Isn't he marrying Jasmine?"
Victoria sighed softly, looking guilty. "To be completely honest, I was the one who forced that engagement on him. He's resented me for it ever since. It was all my fault."
"You must be joking," Delilah scoffed, not buying a single word. "Since when could anyone force Rowan to do anything?"
Victoria dabbed at the corner of her eye, feigning tears. "I threatened to take my own life. He still respects his mother, of course. He isn't a heartless son."
Delilah cut to the chase. "So, why are you really here today?"
"I want Rowan and Lyra to get married this Sunday. I want to fix the mistake I made."
The words hit like a physical blow. Delilah stood up instantly, her stance defensive and resolute. "Lyra is still young and figuring her life out. I'd rather she live freely than be locked in the cage of an early marriage."
Victoria nodded agreeably, showing zero signs of wanting a fight. "You're always so thoughtful, Delilah, and I completely understand. But if she marries Rowan, we'll give her the world. He's always been utterly devoted to her..."
It wasn't until the car was two blocks away that she finally breathed a sigh of relief. She adjusted her posture and looked at the driver. "Take me to the Ford residence. I need to see Jasmine."
The driver, already familiar with the route, smoothly changed directions.
Upon arriving at the property, Victoria sent someone to summon Jasmine. The moment Jasmine stepped out of the gate, her mother, Tabitha, hurried out right behind her.
"Victoria..." Jasmine's voice was barely a whisper. She turned back to Tabitha. "Mom, just go back inside."
Victoria's tone was icy. "Since she's already out here, she might as well listen in."
She held out a ten-million-dollar check, leaving absolutely no room for negotiation. "Take this money and buy yourselves a new house. The wedding between you and Rowan is officially off."
