She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 586

Rowan hung up the phone and looked up, his gaze perfectly calm. "Mom, I'm sterile."

Victoria froze, rooted to the spot. It took her several agonizing seconds to process the words. "What did you say? Say that again."

"I didn't want to bring it up, but there's no point in hiding it anymore. The follow-up exams from that motorcycle accident confirmed I have Obstructive Azoospermia and Irreversible Spermatogenic Necrosis. The doctors concluded it's a permanent loss of fertility."

Victoria stumbled forward, grabbing his arm desperately. "What are you saying? You're telling me that crash didn't just cause amnesia, it made you sterile?"

Rowan hesitated for a fraction of a second, then gave a single nod.

It felt as though a bomb had detonated in Victoria's skull. The news hit her like a thunderbolt, and the room spun dizzily around her. "You're sterile. You..."

Her face went deathly pale, the horrifying reality slipping past her lips. "Does this mean the Jameson bloodline dies with you?"

But in the next heartbeat, she seized onto a shred of hope, her eyes wide and frantic. "No, that can't be right! There has to be a chance! We'll fly you to the top specialists in California immediately. With our money, we can buy whatever treatment you need. It can be fixed!"

Rowan offered a noncommittal hum. "Okay."

Seeing that her son was at least willing to accept treatment, Victoria stood frozen in a daze. Suddenly, her vision blurred with tears for her flawless, untouchable son who had been dealt such a cruel hand. But then, a confusing detail clicked in her mind. She stared at him in utter disbelief. "Wait, then why were you just laughing? You were laughing like you just won the lottery. You're happy you're sterile?"

Rowan met her eyes smoothly. "I'm happy because I have a child."

Victoria gasped. "What did you just say?"

"Lyra is pregnant with my baby."

In a flash, Victoria remembered seeing Lyra at the OBGYN clinic earlier that day. Suddenly, her son's wild, tearful laughter made perfect sense. He was mourning his permanent condition while simultaneously experiencing the euphoric high of discovering a miracle. It was too raw, too real to be anything but the truth.

Dr. Coleman was momentarily caught off guard. "Mr. Jameson told you?"

"Yes!" Victoria snapped, assuming the doctor was still trying to cover it up. "He confessed everything. Now tell me exactly what's wrong with him."

"Mrs. Jameson, is Mr. Jameson standing right next to you?"

Victoria took a deep, steadying breath. "Yes, he's right here. Now spit it out. Stop covering for him."

Taking the cue, Dr. Coleman immediately launched into a flawless, heavily medicalized speech, the conclusion of which was definitive: Rowan Jameson could never father another child.

As for Victoria inevitably demanding to see the medical reports, Dr. Coleman already knew the drill—he just needed to find a patient with the actual condition and swap the name and date.
